One of the standout moments this year was the inaugural edition of #musictech at Slush, the official music vertical of the Slush Conference 20 Nov 2024 in Helsinki. It was an absolute pleasure to host and curate this groundbreaking event alongside Atte Hujanen and Jani Jalonen —huge thanks to both of you! The quality of speakers and discussions was truly world-class, making the event an unforgettable success. With 700 attendees from across the globe and a top-tier speaker lineup, #musictech showcased Helsinki's potential as an international hub for connecting music professionals. It proved that this city can be a vital platform for fostering collaboration and innovation in the music industry. Some might argue that Europe already has its fair share of conferences, and competition is fierce. But the dark November nights of Helsinki offer a unique advantage. When the world's leading VCs and investors descend on the city for Slush—one of the premier startup and investor events—everyone wants to be here, including the music industry. This synergy is what made our event so special. Thanks to Slush, the number of investors participating in #musictech was unparalleled, far surpassing what you might see at any other music or music-tech event worldwide. This remains a key strength for an event like ours. While music tech may still be considered a niche (it shouldn’t be), it undeniably attracts attention. The conversations at the event underscored how essential the core components of the music business are to the broader ecosystem, including technology and finance. The impact of technology on music is so significant that no professional in the industry can afford to overlook its influence on every aspect of the business. A massive thank you to Singa for the efforts making this event possible. Thank you to our superstar producers, Petra Kytölä and JoJo "Johanna" von Hertzen. Thank you Emilia Sipakko, and everyone else who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. A special shoutout to all our sponsors and speakers (check out the original post and event website) for their invaluable support and participation. Mark your calendars for November 19, 2025 and watch out—we’ll be back. #musicindustry #musicinnovation #musicexport #startups #investor #finance #slush Music Finland Music x Media

There is real excitement within the music industry about partnerships with the health sector and its startups. But progress in rolling out projects is necessarily slow: once partnerships are signed, the technology needs serious medical trials to put it through its paces. We’ve got two of those trials to tell you about today, starting with one of the winners of this year’s Music Ally SI:X startups contest: Rescape Innovation. It is working with Universal Music Group on a study testing music and virtual-reality technology’s ability to treat anxiety and other mental-health conditions. Up to 50 people will be testing VR-Melody, an app that combines music, scenery and active listening exercises, as part of the trial. AI startup Bria·ai and Cardiff University’s Centre for Trials Research are also involved in the trial, with results due to be published early in 2025. The second trial announced this week is also in the UK, and involves startup MediMusic. It has been awarded just under £184k of funding for a project with researchers at Anglia Ruskin University that also focuses on anxiety. Specifically, this is about anxiety among people of South Asian backgrounds who are living with dementia. Read more of our analysis : https://lnkd.in/dWrByBRR #musicnews #musically #readmore

Going back to #musictech at Slush 2024 — at the event we heard an insightful keynote 'Tech Trends Transforming Entertainment' by Fred Davis, a Partner at The Raine Group, who stated that we are right now living and era that is 'The most exciting era to be an artist'. 🎤 Keynote Speaker: Fred Davis 💡 Key Discussion Points: The DIY music sector is booming, with significant growth in direct-to-fan platforms and independent artist revenues. Barriers to music creation and distribution have diminished thanks to tech innovations, enabling more artists to monetize their craft. 🚀 Main Takeaways: Industry Shift: Major labels now account for only a half of music ownership, as DIY and independent sectors have expanded. Tech's Role: New distribution platforms, data insights, and financing solutions empower artists and disrupt traditional industry models.
