I've been riding and training barrel horses for most of my life and find the similarities to leadership undeniable. My experiences with these horses have profoundly shaped the way I lead and work with people. Before you can take a horse to any competition, you need to ensure they understand the basics and fundamentals of the event. You're literally putting complete control of your life, your safety, and the safety of others into that animal. This takes time, preparation, training, and validation of skillset before you can turn them loose at top speeds. The results can be disastrous or breathtakingly impeccable! I believe the process of building a sales team, launching a new product, and executing initiatives is very much the same. Breaking down the components needed for success is among the most critical processes you can execute before asking a team to perform at the highest level. Teams also need time, preparation, training, and validation of skillset before you can turn them loose and expect them to perform at their best.
