Our last post suggested you “engage” rather than attempt to “please.” Confronted with a strong objection (or criticism) the ‘response’ is now up to us, especially when the KOL acts as if they are the authority. (You really are, right?!) One strategy is to immediately work to find the “real” question or challenge, the deeper issue the KOL is considering? “Can you give me an example of that from perhaps a patient you are seeing” is a better response than attempting to reiterate and provide a review. The next step is to ask a few more respectful but probing questions which will get to the root of the question and clarify the KOL’s objection. Ask questions to facilitate deeper thinking about their comment: · Why brought you to that conclusion? · What do you think would happen if…? · Why do you think that is the case? · What impact do you think that will have? · What type of data would address your concerns? The art of being an impactful MSL is about asking the right questions and engaging the physician. Be careful not to challenge but to explore and allow the ‘teacher’ to have their say. Consider how you can apply these ideas this week and in our next post we will give you our ideas on how to apply these practices. Insights from a PharmD & an Executive Coach. 🍀 🍀 🍀 Dear Network: 🍀 🍀 🍀 I have a request for everyone working in #clinicalresearch. I hope to get as many participants as possible so we can better educate and spread the wealth of knowledge that we have. Many people that I know working in clinical research are #hungryforknowledge . They want to learn and know ALL THE THINGS. I would like to start a series of articles where #clinicalresearchprofessionals talk about their experiences working in #research . Things such as their past and current roles, their experience and truth working within these roles, how they have progressed or navigated their career, their best tips for other current or potential industry professionals, where they plan to grow and go, and why they like working within this field. (There will also probably be others as well). I want to do this because, as I have worked in research, I have noticed that not everyone always knows the different roles they can seek out. Or they need more information on how to navigate progression. Or how not everyone is informed about how they can change to a different path within this industry -e.g., (CRC to DM or regulatory specialist to CTM - these are random selections.) What are all their options? How do they get their after being here? Etc. I would like these discussions to come from various different roles. Whether its side side, CRO side, Sponsor side, IRB side - yet again, ALL THE THINGS. I want to help people within this industry become better acquainted with it so their paths and experience can be more intentional and pleasant! I would love it if people would participate. If you comment that you are interested, I will reach out to you to coordinate further. I know your time is valuable, so I promise not to steal too much of it 😁 ( just a lil bit). I know we can help educate and inform. #clinicaltrials #clinicalresearchprofessionals #clinicalresearchcoordinator #clinicalresearchassociate #clinicaldatamanagement #clinicaldevelopment #clinicaloperations #regulatoryaffairs #studystartup #clinicalquality #knowledgeispower #anythingcanhappen #inthistogether
