Given so much hype around AI, how do humans maximize patient safety benefits and determine signal vs noise? Today in JAMA Internal Medicine, we propose five pragmatic use cases to help advance science, policy, and practice initiatives at the intersection of AI and patient safety. These include: 1- Creating widespread interoperability 2- Measuring patient safety 3- Analyzing large multi-center databases for signals 4- Predicting adverse events proactively 5- Developing and Evaluating Generative AI Twenty-five years after the report “To Err is Human,” only marginal improvements in patient safety have been realized but there is recent momentum. Because maximizing the impact on safety using AI is a shared responsibility, we assign responsibilities for ensuring next steps. With Dean Sittig and David Classen Link https://lnkd.in/gTibVwqB
