20+ years in Cybersecurity, this has become my mission...
Last month I announced my free training, and 400+ people later, a question I asked has been answered:
Have you struggled to break into cybersecurity? If so, what has been your challenge?
In this video, I'll be diving into the hurdles that many of you have candidly shared with me about launching your cybersecurity career. I'll also discuss why I created my training, and how it can help those facing similar challenges breaking into Cybersecurity.
If you are reading this and want to work in Cybersecurity, you don't want to miss what I have to say in my video.
The next step is to sign up for my free training to learn the steps to beginning your Cybersecurity career:

Hey everyone, it's Chris. And not too long ago I introduced my training to everyone. So I wanted to talk to everyone and share some of the insights that I've seen that I've obtained from the free training where I asked the question. And I have quite a bit of data here. Why have you struggled to get into cybersecurity? So I want to just read off really quickly some of the things that again, nearly 400, actually over 400 people have said. And some people say I'm not ready to interview, I need a resume, I need more skills, lack of experience. Landing an interview. Lack of confidence in the knowledge again, Lack of experience. Not enough skills. Communication struggles. Need hands on training again, no experience. Struggle to find the right direction. Need guidance. More experience, um, lack of skills, lack of hands on skills. Kind of a pattern that I've noticed and. Some of you might know that hopefully you know by now. So I've been in this field for over 20 years. I've held a variety of positions including being a hiring manager for multiple different companies and including my last job at the House of reps where I was the cybersecurity engineering lead. So I basically was the hiring person for the entire team and also participated in the other areas of cyber security hiring, so. Basically, I've helped hire lots of people, so what's the point here? So the training that I created, right, it's to provide a real world guide. So I actually work in the field and training is something that I've done my entire career. And the reason is, is I know how hard it is to start in cybersecurity. I know how difficult it is to obtain the skills and really finding that guidance when I was first starting out. I had absolutely no idea where to begin and really hardly anyone could give in the answer. I would. I would ask left and right. No one could really give me the the right direction. So it wasn't until I actually, you know, struggled for way too long to find my first job and I started to gain that insight. So really, when I look back, I said I don't want anyone else to go through what I went through because I almost gave up, honestly, just like you. Nothing. Comes easy, and my career was not easy as well. So really my goal was to put something together that's based on real cybersecurity from real experience, to help people who are serious and actually want to get in the cybersecurity, Build not only the skills, but build their actual experience through real-world skills and what probably makes my training a lot different than anything else, that's really. Out there is that. And you know, the people in my training will tell you when I have you do a project, you build everything from beginning to end. And that's something that I'll tell you from being an engineering lead and protecting just all sorts of different resources that each one requires a different type of protection. And people who are in the field known. I'm talking about you need to have an understanding of how things work together. And that's one thing that I've noticed is lacking in a lot of the training out there. So when I built my program, I said. Alright, you're going to build the skill, you're going to develop the knowledge, but you're going to learn how to apply the knowledge into an environment by building it yourself. And when you do that, what happens is it actually takes you to another level, where you're explaining something, for instance in an interview or on the job, but you're able to explain it from all the different layers. In other words, how the different systems interact and depending on what you're talking about, how it. Effects everything else. So you know, when you're working in cybersecurity, especially in today's more complicated and complex environments, you have to understand how everything comes together. That is one of the main focuses of my training, so that you develop skills in multiple different areas. So you're not really just a sock analyst, you're also developing skills that really open up doors for other positions as well. And that was by design. And the reason I did that is I know everyone lives in different areas. There may not be sock analyst jobs in your particular area. There might be system junior system engineers, there might be system admins. So I built in those skills to give you that flexibility to what I call career proof yourself through skills. But moreover, the important thing is when you learn and actually apply what you've learned. By building things from again from A-Z, you know, beginning to end. It develops that experience and you speak differently in interviews. And that's why so many of the students that go through my program, they're landing jobs easily because they're not just answering a question, they're actually speaking to the position, they're actually speaking to how this skill applies to the position. And I can tell you right now, as a hiring manager, that's what I look for. When I look for someone who is new to the field, I want to make sure that not only do they have a foundational understanding, but that they've actually. Applied that knowledge, if you only know the term and you've learned it from a book, that's not going to work in a real world where you have to have the understanding of how it works within an entire environment. OK, and. Cybersecurity changes constantly. So that's The thing is you have to have skills that are adaptable to different situations because. Companies all apply their cybersecurity in different ways. If you look at the different job requirements and the systems they use, you'll see that they tend to differ. There are some common ones, but they tend to differ. So you might say to yourself, I can't learn everything. What you deemed what you do need to learn is you need to have those foundations that allow you to apply your skill to learn something and learn it quickly. And then adapt to the environment itself. That is really that formula to success, which is what I do in my program itself. The other thing I will say is I've made it extremely affordable. It's a subscription, so you only need to sign up for what you need. And it's also very highly effective because I keep it focused. I'm not trying to teach you 7000 things when you only need to know you know fifty of them. I keep everything very focused, develop your skill and experience. In it. OK, well, the last part I'll tell you about is, well, you have all this skill knowledge, that's great. But now how do you get the job? So there is the whole job portion or career portion where you build your resume. I'll show you how to find your job. I actually, for the people who sign up, especially with the webinar, I actually offer free resume review where I will work with you and give you feedback to make sure that your resume is the best resume that it can be. OK. But I also provide that guidance to help you learn how to interview, learn how to prepare for the interview. So you have your resume, you know how to interview, how to find your job. It's an entire career path of knowledge. And then the career component. And all of those combined lead to helping you find a job. Because in today's job market, it's extremely difficult and jobs aren't handed out. Every job I can tell you, gets typically hundreds. Sometimes even thousands of applicants. So it's important that your resume is razor sharp, aligned to the position, and then when you get that interview that you know how to interview, how to show your skill, that it's applicable to their environment, that's what helps my students land their job. If this sounds like something that would help you, I mean I have free training, I'll put the link up here that you can. Again, there's lots of good. Material that I give you for free that you can take and use, and then if you want that help to actually get your career going and get those hands on skills, get that experience, get the guidance. Well, there's affordable training that I talk about as well and I even give you a discount. So I've tried to build something that is accessible and as highly effective as possible through 20 years of actual real world professional. Experience. OK. So again, I hope this helps you and answers a lot of the questions I've been getting and we're going to continue. This is just the start and I look forward to helping as many people as I can launch their career. OK, Until next time. Thanks.
