The FAA has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to seek feedback on research areas to expand UAS into the National Airspace System (NAS). Key focus areas include BVLOS operations, traffic management, noise impacts, vehicle-to-vehicle communication, detect-and-avoid technologies, human factors, AI/automation and infrastructure for UAS operations. https://lnkd.in/gAAdY-fi
We caught up with Erick Corona, Director of ConOps and Airspace Ecosystem at Wisk at Airspace World 2024. He had some particularly interesting observations about the state of play in our industry.
"With technologies already existing for AAM, what is needed now is an integration" – this simple (and true) statement has enormous complexity behind it. Integration is such a huge and important issue. Everything, from the use of AI, to data security, to airspace design, to scheduling, to people and skills are at play when we talk about integration.
Possibly the most important aspect of integration is gathering the key stakeholders together to dig into the various elements face-to-face. This is what happens at Airspace World.
🗣️As Eric says: “This is the event where the future of airspace activities, air traffic management and the services of air traffic management is shaped.”

Imagine cruising at altitudes so high and speeds so swift that New York to Tokyo becomes a matter of a few hours instead of half a day. This isn't a scene from a science fiction novel; it's the future that researchers like Hisham Ali and his team at the University of Colorado, Boulder, are diligently working towards. In the realm of hypersonic travel, traditional navigation tools like wings and ailerons falter under the immense forces and scorching temperatures. Ali proposes a revolutionary method: steering with plasmas through magnetohydrodynamics. But how close are we really to boarding a hypersonic flight?
