TLP’s mission is safeguarding childhoods through fostering family connections. The best predictor of whether children fare well during and following parental separation is the duration and degree of conflict. Conflict is natural and inevitable, but combat is optional. 47% of Kansas families with children struggled to pay their regular household expenses last week, family divide only causes further financial strain on families.  The families who need our services the most can’t afford them, and as a result have no true access to justice and are unable to reach their highest potential, resulting in the cycle of intergenerational trauma. The Layne Project needs your help to transform the way families in transition deal with conflict, and expand our reach to all families in need. Presently, we are acting under our fiscal sponsor, Kansas Alliance for Nonprofits to give us the ability to apply for funding, and to accept donations in order to offer individual grants and scholarships to families in need. Kansas Alliance for Non-Profits (KAN) is a 501(c)(3). However, The Layne Project must transform to a 501(c)(3) to achieve our mission. In order for us to continue to serve our communities families and expand our reach this must happen with urgency. We will keep running regular sessions for children and provide young people with a social space to spend quality time with their families, participate in fun activities and access the tools, knowledge, and skills. Children in Kenya, just like other parts of the world, experience some aspects of life that cause trauma. Very often trauma experienced stems from separation/divorce, abandonment, sickness, violence and death in the family. The growing number of children experiencing violations of various forms, especially sexual exploitation, child labor, early marriages, threats of or actual female genital cut are left with marks that turn around their lives. The good part is that there is a growing number of children stepping forward seeking for help. Unfortunately, some of the children remain silent: locked up in a world that shut down for them with the experience. They need to be supported to live through the emotions, unlock the gates to their inner beauty in-order to thrive now and into their future. Counselling is not commonly programmed for children in our community, thus not accessible to majority of the children, especially those living in very vulnerable circumstances. Life Bloom operates with a pool of qualified counsellors ready and already holding up this project. Child Centered Art and Play Therapy approaches are used. Continued counsellor related up-skilling, debriefing and counsellor supervision will be part of the process. What remains is for some of the children to receive sponsorship for this life -changing transformative healing journey.
