From Indiewire: One cool feature that’s relatively unique to Amazon Prime Video is the streamer’s X-Ray feature, which pops up the name of an actor or the music you’re currently hearing or seeing on screen when you pause the show. No need to go to IMDb.com to figure out where you recognize that guy from or to Shazam that song — so long as you’re actually watching a show or movie on Amazon. Now Amazon Prime Video is extending that X-Ray feature a step further by summarizing full episodes or even entire seasons of TV through the push of a button. The company is calling it “X-Ray Recaps,” and it’s available now in Beta version on Amazon MGM Originals and for Fire TV users specifically. X-Ray Recaps is powered through generative AI models trained on various video segments of shows, subtitles, and other dialogue, and it manages to generate a brief, detailed description of the key moments and even specific places, times, conversations, and character names, present in an episode or a season of #TV to help you catch up. It’s like having ChatGPT on your remote, but you can only prompt it to tell you what happened last week on “The Wheel of Time.” At any time while watching, you can pause the show and activate the feature, electing to have it summarize single episodes, the most recent season, or the entire series up to that point. X-Ray is also supposed to know how far along you’ve specifically watched and has some guardrails in place to make sure that whatever the #AI generates doesn’t spoil the rest of the show for you. The idea is that it saves you the trouble of going online and risking looking up something and reading a spoiler you didn’t want to know about. For now, the feature is only available on Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios original shows, and the blog post announcing the tool mentions “Daisy Jones and the Six,” “The Boys,” “The Wheel of Time,” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” that are making use of the #tech. No word on if other older Amazon shows and movies will add it as well, or if the feature will be extended to other content licensed through Prime Video. #streaming

#Amazon #PrimeVideo #AI Amazon has introduced a new feature called “X-Ray Recaps” for Prime Video, designed to provide viewers with concise summaries of entire seasons, individual episodes, and segments of episodes without revealing spoilers. This generative AI-powered tool aims to help users avoid encountering unwanted plot details while enjoying their favorite shows. The feature expands on the existing X-Ray functionality, which offers information about the cast and trivia when users pause the screen. To access X-Ray Recaps, viewers can visit the detail page of a TV show and select from options to recap the current episode, the entire season, or the previous season. Currently in beta, X-Ray Recaps is available exclusively to Fire TV customers in the U.S. and can be used with Amazon MGM Studios original titles like “Daisy Jones & the Six” and “The Wheel of Time.” The feature will be rolled out to additional devices by the end of the year. It utilizes custom AI models to analyze video content, subtitles, and dialogue, providing personalized summaries based on the viewer's current progress in the episode. This announcement follows a similar tool released by Google TV that offers AI-generated summaries of shows and movies.

🎬🤖✨ Amazon’s AI-Powered Recaps – The New “Previously On…” or Just Cliff Notes for Streaming? ✨🤖🎬 Amazon Prime Video just launched AI-generated X-Ray Recaps that give you a “previously on…” for everything from entire seasons to mid-episode updates. It’s like those classic recaps from broadcast TV—only on steroids. I can see the appeal for binge-watchers, but are we losing something in the process? Remember the suspense of waiting a whole week, tuning in, and catching that “previously on…” clip that jogged your memory and set the stage? There was a thrill to it. Now, with AI recaps, we’re getting the whole plot summarized instantly. Cool, but maybe a little too convenient? 🤔 On one hand, AI recaps help us pick up where we left off without missing a beat (or a plot twist). But there’s a fine line here—are we enhancing storytelling or giving it the “fast-forward” treatment? Half the fun of a series is piecing it all together over time, not having it spoon-fed on demand. So, is this the evolution of the classic recap, or just cliff notes for today’s streaming generation? Curious if this keeps the magic alive for you, or if you think we’re losing the suspense. 📺✨

Months ago, I posted about what I would do if I were the CEO of Netflix. It's hard to really understand how disruptive AI will be for all industries, but particularly the TV show and movie Industries. Anyone who's seen me speak or heard any of the Podcasts I've been on will have heard me say this:"Within 5 to 10 years, we'll have a Netflix streaming service that's fully A.I. driven, where you tell it what type of show you want to watch, "Like Friends, but with more Joey!" and it will generate you a series, which you can then share on social media and which can go Viral all on its own. Everybody will be a Director. Last year I predicted the introduction of Real-Time translation on phones and zoomcalls within two years. In January, Samsung launched its S24 series with Live Translate. Now it's happening again, bold predictions turn out to be conservative. A.I. keeps blowing things out of the water. This is the Never Normal and it's accelerating... Fable studio has opened up the Waitlist for it's new A.I. powered Streaming Service. "SHOWRUNNER" Now I'm sure this won't be a NetFlix killer just yet... But this is a clear sign of how fast things are moving. Your move, Netflix!
