Today in European Parliament...the majority of Politicians (329 to be exact) voted FOR anchoring Decency + Resiliency + Permaculture + Innovation + Entrepreneurship + Family + Wealth + and Nature. Today is an improvement. Today is a testament that European Values mean something. For the Luxembourg Members of European Parliament who advocate for anchoring Decency in Agriculture+ ...especially Tilly Metz... 🙏🏻MERCI!!!

The VOTES are IN: we have a new nature restoration law for the European Union! Good to see some courage and vision from some member states. Implementation of the law will soon start. EUROPARC acknowledges the challenges ahead and will continue to support member states and their #ProtectedArea networks, to identify opportunities and drive innovation. We can do this best, by working across sectors, including tourism and agriculture, making new alliances, and finding routes to a resilient nature that ensures people are part of the process. #whatdoesittake to be nature positive. It’s been a busy week for ecology in Hong Kong with biodiversity and nature being top of the business agenda. Really encouraging to have so many high-profile speakers yesterday at the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) launch in Hong Kong yesterday, notably the Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Salina Yam, describing how much weight and emphasis the government are putting on biodiversity. It was great to have the chance to speak face-to-face to Emily McKenzie, Technical Director of TNFD to discuss how ecologists will be involved with this framework moving forwards. It's going to be a busy in next few years for this biodiversity/financial field but certainly exciting times ahead. A real opportunity for practical ecologists to diversify and take their knowledge and skills to a new type of 'field'. #TNFD #NbS #nature #hkbiodiversity #BringingIdeasToLife #WhatDoesItTake #aurecon Aurecon Business Environment Council Hong Kong Green Finance Association (HKGFA) Jenny Lee Thomas H. 👉 It's clear that the Plant Based community must reinforce and promote the positive economic impact of such industry. 💰 This is also relevant to show all economic operators, and the EU political leadership, the importance of such sector as well as the strategic investment that can be reinforced with such products. 💯 More stretegic thought must be applied if the Plant Based sector to grow and impact more citizens, animals and ecosystems. https://lnkd.in/d9_t5ETu

The main take away from the Scottish Land & Estates Conference yesterday was that ‘less strategy and more doing’ was required for rural Scotland. Governments need to provide leadership for regulatory direction, with solutions coming from industry. Anas Sarwar MSP confirmed this stating the role of government was 3-fold; 1. Collaboration and partnership working 2. Develop strategic long term planning 3. Provide the ‘convening’ power The theme of the conference, Resilience: Building successful businesses for the future attracted thought provoking speakers and the case study and panel sessions were inspiring. There is a raft of policy currently swirling all of which need the ‘so what’ answering. The integration between food production and the environment was cemented - Vicki Swales said “without nature land based businesses are threatened” and regenerative agriculture was mentioned a number of times - ties in well with Savills Rural Reseach Food and the Environment spotlight due out early June. Tim Bradshaw highlighted 3 key takeaways to build personal resilience: 1. Focus on intelligence not information. Take a tactical pause! 2. Enable resilience in others - it only takes a human touch to make a huge difference 3. FEAR = false expectation appearing real I.e focus on what you can do Sarah-Jane Laing summed up the day “words aren’t enough, we need direct action”. Evelyn Channing Hugo Struthers Lucy Jenner

As a result of the #forest sector reform, the relationship between businesses and private households regarding the forest has fundamentally changed. This change particularly affects those households and businesses that derive income from the extraction and use of Timber forest products (TFP) 🌲🌲 📄 To #evaluate the structure of the connection between private households and businesses with the forest and to determine the impact of the forest sector reform on the incomes and general economics, Depa Consulting has prepared a report on the value chain assessment of Timber forest products (TFP) 💡 During the #research stage, in-depth #interviews were conducted with representatives from the #nongovernmental sector and various state agencies. Additionally, the main actors involved in the value chain of Timber forest products (TFP) including enterprises and trade facilities, were interviewed using the semi-structured interview method. ✨ The project "Enabling the Implementation of Georgia's Forest Sector Reform - ECO.Georgia” is being implemented by GIZ and the Government of Georgia from 2021 to 2028. The activities of the project aim to promote the reform of the forest sector in Georgia.

Share this with your thoughts, share it with your connections, share it wide and far - in the hope that some of the responsible EU member countries' politicians are nudged enough to grow a bit of backbone and vote that all-important YES. The EU Nature Restoration Law, as watered down as it already is, is hanging on by a thread. It may fail in the upcoming vote, and it may narrowly become law. Ireland's Minister for the Environment is still hopeful > https://lnkd.in/gQDvhtPx Over 100 major companies have urged EU member states again to pass the new law as millions of companies (and thus because of supply chains, the entire EU economy) depend on one or more of nature's many ecosystem services. > https://lnkd.in/d6iQmsCP Last I heard Sweden, Finland, Poland, Italy, the Netherlands and Hungary still plan to vote against the bill - with Austria and Belgium currently abstaining. If only one of the countries shifts into the YES column, the new law passes. What's the opposition say? Even though they know that the vast majority of EU citizens are FOR the law? According to Politico: 👉 Sweden "believes the EU is overstepping by trying to regulate how countries manage their forests" 👉 Finland "fears disproportionate costs" 👉 Poland opposes "to appease angry farmers" 👉 Hungary "argues that Brussels is setting “irrational targets” motivated by a “green ideology” — even though it previously supported the bill" 👉 In Belgium and Austria, regional governments are opposing the law, preventing their federal governments from voting in favor. All of these governments are currently still cowering before various lobbies ... and, personally, I sincerely hope that at least one of these countries grows a bit of backbone and stands up proud and strong for the biodiversity-rich nature we all need for a sustainable, healthy future. #rewilding #rewilderweekly #eunaturerestorationlaw Rewilding Europe Rewilding Sweden Rewilding Portugal Fundación Española de Renaturalización - Rewilding Spain Rewilding France Rewilding Apennines, Rewilding Rhodopes Frans Schepers Laurien Holtjer WWF WWF-Belgium Giulia Testa #naturerestorationlaw #restorenature Savanta Global Rewilding Alliance Global Commons Alliance Climate Catalyst European Commission
