Despite the wettest 18 months since 1836, increasing fertiliser and energy costs; the UK Food Security Index 2024 (published last month) reported that in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, confidence in food supply chain actors to ensure food is safe to eat varied by actor. Respondents were more likely to report confidence in farmers (84%) and shops and supermarkets (81%) and least likely to report confidence in takeaways (54%), and food delivery services (39%). #BackBritishFarming #YourHarvest #UKFarming #BeConfident

We've been getting to work out in #Ward8! As many of you know, we don't address food deserts because we know that food access is a man-made problem with plenty of man-made solutions available for those who care to fix it. Although Ward 8 has the highest number of #farmers in #ChocolateCity, it is still considered the hardest hit by what we call #FoodApartheid. Since the two wards #EastOfTheRiver can only access produce at two big box stores, #DreamingOutLoud is building a market in #HistoricAnacostia! The significance of building something at the intersection of #MLK and #MarionBarry is not lost on us, but knowing that we will be able to give more market access to #BlackFarmers and #BlackBusinessOwners in the region while giving our community a chance to buy #LocallyGrown organic produce is an honor and a privilege that we don't take lightly.
