You teach people how to treat you. Healthy boundaries are a sign of a conscious leader.
I travel a lot. This is my first full week in Dallas in the last six. Ali and I have a travel rule that works for the entire family… Two nights away MAX. Then I get my butt home. Why? Because we do this life TOGETHER. She has a full time job designing furniture AND handling a $15 mil account. She also dominates the kids. That’s A LOT. I have no clue how she does it but she’s an insane rock star. But she’s also human. Two nights away is about the max one person can handle with school, dance, cheer, basketball and all the gazillion other things like meals and bedtimes with all 3 kids. AND A JOB!! She also understands that I gotta get out to our branches and love on them and be WITH them. That me being with them IN PERSON is an important job of driving our values and purpose. But getting back after two nights keeps the sanity. Get back. Get present. I always take the kids to school. Help with bedtime. She sleeps better. Etc. The “two nights away MAX” really works for us! The point it this. Get intentional and set rules that align with your values. I have my own personal core values and one of them is this: Alison is #1. Now obviously you gotta take care of your own damn self to help with others but you get the point. This value keeps me aligned with my priorities. And Ali’s not #1 when I’m away for 5 nights in a week. So, I just don’t do it. It’s simple. And it has really worked for us as our family grew bigger!! Happy Saturday. Love yall!! 😘
