Are you prepared for a safe Halloween? Halloween means more pedestrians in and around your home. So, it’s no surprise we see a significant increase in slip and fall, or trip and fall, injuries during this time of year. Here are a few simple steps to keep trick-or-treaters safe around your property this Halloween: #1 Proper Lighting - Ensure your property is well lit with outdoor lights on pathways, stairs, and entrances. # 2 Clear Pathways - Ensure an unobstructed path for trick-or-treaters with clear lighting like pathway lights, string lights, or luminous markers. For safety, choose battery-operated LED lights over open flames in pumpkins or lanterns. # 3 Remove Obstruction - Secure any decorations, such as inflatables or props, to prevent them from falling over or blocking the way. Avoid placing decorations, like fake cobwebs or streamers, in areas where they can tangle with children's costumes or obstruct their vision.

It’s that time of year again… Halloween! 🎃👻 In many parts of the world, Halloween provides a great opportunity for companies of all sizes to boost sales and to connect with customers. Indeed, countless brand owners create dedicated marketing campaigns around this increasingly popular event. The role of intellectual property? ✅ Words, letters, symbols, and other signs, representing brands on Halloween-themed costumes, candies, TV series, vampire-related accessories, etc., can be registered as trademarks. ✅ The ornamental features (shape, pattern, color…), of Halloween decorations, costumes, accessories, and more, can be protected through industrial designs. ✅ And of course, geographical indications can be used to protect, for example, confectionery – strongly associated with Halloween celebrations – that has unique qualities linked to a specific geographical origin. Some fun facts about Halloween… 🎃 Halloween’s origins date back some 2’000 years to the October 31 Celtic festival “Samhain”, celebrating the end of the harvest season and the blurring of the physical and spiritual worlds. 🎃 In the 7th century, the Catholic Church established November 1 as “All Saints' Day” – also known as “All-hallows”. The night before “All Saints’ Day” became known as “All-Hallows Eve” and eventually “Halloween”. 🎃 The origins of trick-or-treating likely come from the “All-Hallows” custom whereby the poor would visit wealthier households to collect soul cakes. Want to find out more about brands related to “Halloween”? Simply search for the term “Halloween” in WIPO’s Global Brand (https://branddb.wipo.int) or Global Design (https://designdb.wipo.int) Databases to browse through hundreds of trademarks and designs from multiple national, regional and international collections. 🎃 Pumpkin Carving Safety Tips! 🕯️ As you get ready to create the perfect jack-o'-lantern this Halloween, keep these burn safety tips in mind: 1. Keep it Out of Reach - Always keep candles, matches, and lighters out of children's reach, especially when using them in pumpkins. 2. Costume Caution - Be mindful of costumes around lit jack-o'-lanterns or candles. Flammable materials can pose a risk! 3. Go Flameless - Consider using flameless candles, battery-operated lights, or glow sticks to illuminate your creations without the fire hazard. Stay safe and enjoy your spooky season!🕷️✨
