Luxury Villa Party in Cannes, anyone? Looking forward to Marché du Film - Festival de Cannes Festival de Cannes with a mix of business, pleasure and hopefully sunshine. However, one party invite I will definitely not be RSVPing yes to is the one hosted by dunhill and Dunhill Ventures (purveyors of 'Luxury Retail Goods & Jewellery' - conveniently forgetting to mention the fags). Unbelievably and crassly, they've decided to host it at Villa Oxygene. I watched my dad die the most horrible death trying to breath after a lifetime of smoking, having started when it was marketed as cool and good for you. As will have millions of others. So, yes this is an emotional post. No doubt the inheritors of the presumably massive dunhill fortune make themselves feel somewhat better by now investing in 'good things'. Good for them, I'm sure they're all lovely, well meaning people and hopefully they're investing in the right places. But it would all be so much more authentic and would go in some small way to honor the lives ruined by fags if they had the courage and humility to own the source of their wealth. The Board has now taken the decision to avoid investment in tobacco1 using the definition supplied by the Joint Protocol of Cancer Research UK and Universities UK on Tobacco Industry Funding to Universities.
