I recently came across this excellent piece on “EU-Indonesia Relations Need a New Dynamic”, written by Daniel Caspary MdEP and David McAllister highlighting the need and prospects for closer EU-Indonesia relations and how a new dynamic can result in a relationship that proves to be mutually beneficial for all concerned. For its part, EuroCham Indonesia strongly backs and advocates for maintaining Indonesia’s Integration with the Global Value Chain by supporting initiatives such as the ongoing Indonesia EU - Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) round of negotiations which, once finalized, promotes closer ties between the EU and Indonesia. Very good analysis why Indonesia is contested between US and China. Each trying to give incentive to Indonesia to side with them. Security vs Economic. The author said that Indonesia not only hold the gate for twothird of China trade on the Malacca Strait but also $900 worth Billion of US investment in South East Asia. Indonesia become the last and the biggest "swing country" in the world. In other word, winning the mind and heart of largest swing country is considered the important geopolitics strategy in winning the Cold War 2.0. Note: some mistakes on history of Indonesia. Like Indonesia is independence not on 49 but 45. That's the narrative of the west especially Dutch who does not recognize Indonesia independence of August 17, 1945.
