The Army-Navy Game presented by USAA is a sports bucket list item. The tradition along with the ceremony of the game is special. It's a great experience. While everyone who plays NCAA football turns pro in something after the collegiate playing days, everyone who plays in the Army-Navy Game goes on to serve in the military. Everyone. This is the 125th meeting between United States Military Academy at West Point and United States Naval Academy. Navy leads the series 62–55–7. The traditions are one of the things that make this game special. This is the only game where two flyovers take place, one from the US Army and the other from the US Navy. The two service academies conduct a formal "prisoner exchange" as part of the pre-game activities. The prisoners are the cadets and midshipmen currently spending the semester studying at the sister academy. The invocation is followed by the American national anthem sung by members of the USMA and USNA choirs. At the end of the game, both school songs are performed. The winning team stands alongside the losing team and faces the losing academy's students; then the losing team accompanies the winning team, facing their students. Since the winning team's song is performed last, the phrase "sing second" has become synonymous with winning the rivalry game. It's a great experience to see live. I don't post a lot about what I do in the military, but as the MIRC G3 Operations Sergeant Major, one of my annual huge events is the Noncommissioned Officer and Soldier of the Year Competition. I have been involved with this division level competition for four years, and this by far is the BEST one we have executed. Each year we improved and built on the year before. The difference with this year's competition appropriarely named "Operation Sasquatch Warrior" as it was held at JBLM, WA, April 10-15, 2024, is that we had the most MIRC Staff involved and running it. We had the most Cadre from our supported units. And we had the most competitors ever. We had 13 of a possible 14 competitors compete this year, and last we had seven. Not only did we have the most, but we had the BEST show up to support and compete. This was a group of highly talented professionals. This competition is designed to push the competitors past their limits and challenge them mentally, emotionally and physically. As the only event truly planned, coordinated, resourced, and executed by NCOs and Enlisted Soldiers, this is how we develop our young leaders, both the competitors and Cadre who are conducting the events. Finally, this effort is planned at least a year in advance. The FY25 competition is being planned now. We coordinated/collaborated with seven different units comprised of the Army Active Component and Army Reserve. The highlight was the surprise Chinook ride for our competitors. We coordinated with the Reserve Chinook unit based at JBLM, who themselves were conducting night training missions, to perform a night EXFIL of our competitors after they completed the night land navigation event! This was a first time for this type of operation in our event. The success of this competition would not be possible without my planning team. They got this done. There is not enough words for me to express my appreciation and gratitude to them for their tenacity and hard work! You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with. Maybe you’ve heard something about the #Olympics starting soon? Have you heard that the military will be sending active duty service members to Paris to compete? Four US Army soldiers will be putting on a different uniform this summer as they represent the United States is a different capacity. Staff Sgt. William Hinton, Staff Sgt. Rachel Tozier, and Sgt. Sagen Maddalena, all soldier-athletes assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU), will be competing for Team USA in Paris. Sgt. Ivan Roe rounds out the Army’s representation at the Games. Roe will be assigned to the USAMU after completing Infantry One Station Unit Training. Maddalena will compete in Air Rifle; Roe will compete in Mixed Team 10m Air Rifle; Hinton and Tozier will compete in Men’s and Women’s Trap, respectively. All shooters are first-time Olympians, with the exception of Maddalena, who will be participating in her second Olympic Games. The legacy of elite Army athletes spans more than 75 years across several Olympics sports like ruby, luge, bobsled, track and field, and more. Please watch this short video to better understand how we have modernized the format for the Inter-service rifle competition. Upgrades to the format were made because we wanted to: 1. Create a format that better tested competitor’s lethality with their service rifle / better tested combat marksmanship. 2. Ensure all service members can compete, not just service shooting team members. -We had members from a SEAL Team compete, we had and Army SOF soldier compete, many USMC snipers competed, and I even competed. 3. Retain Olympic hi-power portions of the competition for historic legacy and to retain an appropriate focus on precision. In closing, this was a complete success with a doubling in attendance from last year. Our goals for next year are to continue to increase the attendance with significantly greater attendance from other services, including SOCOM service members.

Special mention is deserved for Tactics Wing at the School of Infantry who designed and executed this year’s competition across High Range and Tully. The competition would not have been possible without the dedicated support of 3 Bde, 16 Bde and the Combat Training Centre - thank you! Above all else, the competitors across all RAR Battalions were outstanding and the results were tight. They all demonstrated professionalism, resilience and determination.
