Just a quick update on the progress of the Future Bike Racer Concept I’m developing for my upcoming design workshop. All modelling is done in Blender, and I’m picking up some fantastic tricks while incorporating lessons from recent projects. The next step involves refining bodywork surfaces and creating a realistic design, complete with an opening transparent canopy. I took a slightly sci-fi approach to the drive train to keep things interesting—sometimes, it’s all about the creative exploration rather than getting too deep into the engineering specifics, which wasn’t the primary focus here. Dug up an old gem I designed in 2008 over the weekend - one that snagged recognition in the BMW Motorrad design contest. This bike is based on the 1959 BMW Rennsport, so it's naturally named the Rennsport; bearing the notorious "Earles" front end and track racing heritage throughout. My version includes a friction drivetrain and stressed member frame while maintaining a featherbed layout, blending the sport bike tank and cafe seat together. Added some tweaks to amp up the realism today - threw in a kickstand, dialed in connection offsets, and arrayed together a chain and sprocket for the friction drive to rocket the rear wheel. Resurfacing an old project always seems to have it's own set of challenges; specifically tailored to things being rushed for delivery (ie. render models vs. engineered). More tweaks on the horizon - I'm gearing up for some kickass renders just for the heck of it. You know how it goes - sometimes taking a trip down memory lane sparks all sorts of creative madness.
