📊 New Report Examines 30 Years of Firearm Violence Trends in the U.S. 📊 The latest report provides a comprehensive view of firearm violence from 1993 to 2023, offering insights that go beyond any single data source. By analyzing data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the CDC, this report reveals patterns in fatal and nonfatal firearm violence, including: 🔹 A 72% decline in the rate of nonfatal firearm violence for persons 12+ over the past three decades. 🔹Reporting trends, with about 64% of nonfatal incidents reported to police from 2018–2022. 🔹The persistence of firearms in homicide cases, with firearms involved in around 80% of homicides in recent years. Along with mandatory weapons checks, healthcare workers are calling for mandatory 20 years in prison for violence in hospitals. Bringing weapons into hospitals is putting patients and providers at risk, and it's long past time that those who save be made safe. Weapons screening is the least we can do to protect those providing care and those who are seeking care. TW: Guns, shootings of young people, injury, death Another day, another tragic shooting in America. This time, it's high school kids at a party in Indiana. One dead, 10 injured. But hey, by all means, let's do nothing about gun control and better gun laws, and continue to focus on taking away the rights of the trans community and spending millions of dollars on anti-trans lies and rhetoric. Because clearly that's the real threat to our society, not the endless cycle of gun violence claiming young lives. I mean, why bother addressing the fact that homicide is a leading cause of death for teenagers? Nah, let's keep our priorities straight - making sure trans kids can't play sports or use the bathroom they feel comfortable in. That will certainly solve all our problems and make our communities safer. Most Republicans will continue to offer their usual "thoughts and prayers," wring their hands about mental health (without actually doing anything about it), and then get right back to the important work of marginalizing vulnerable groups. Because that's so much easier than tackling the complex issue of gun violence in America.

Many assume that women are less likely to use firearms in suicide attempts. However, recent CDC data reveal a troubling truth: firearms are now the leading means of suicide for women, surpassing poisoning and suffocation. This reflects a 43% increase over the past two decades.
