Visit to a Chrysanthemum Farm I recently had the pleasure of visiting a beautiful chrysanthemum farm. Here's a glimpse into my visit surrounded by these stunning blooms: Upon arrival I was I was greeted by the sight of colorful blossoms stretching as far as the eye could see. The air was filled with a sweet, floral scent that was refreshing. Ruud Van Wijk, son of Van Wijk Chrysantum grower showed me around their farm. It was both interesting and knowledgeable. One of the most rewarding aspects of my visit was the chance to learn about chrysanthemums from the master himself. 🌼 Learning About Chrysanthemums at Van Wijk In Maasdijk they have 2 varieties Chrys. Radost and Radost cream. The Cycle from planting till harvesting is more or less 10 weeks. They steam the ground annually to avoid ground pest forming, called Fusarium. As the demand for sustainable farming practices grows, reducing chemical use in agriculture becomes increasingly important. This approach not only helps protect the environment but also promotes healthier produce and safer conditions for farmers and exporters. As advanced technologies has revolutionized greenhouse farming, transforming it into a highly efficient, sustainable, and productive method of agriculture. Modern greenhouses equipped with the latest technologies that optimize growing conditions, reduce resource usage, and enhance crop yields. Van Wijk has also invested a lot into optimization, from LED lighting to insect netting, everything just to improve the crop Currently they only have the location, in Maasdijk but as per 1 October they will be in full production on a new location in De Lier. This new location will cater for a Market with higher specs. The Variety Commander will be grown there for example. Visiting the Van Wijk chrysanthemum farm is a reminder of the simple joys that nature offers.
