I’m telling you, when you all morph job roles like this? It doesn’t yield good results in the long run. You pass up candidates who can fill the roles separately and optimize your results and then you create a “wrong label” like I’ve stated before and leave the people you’re trying to employ confused or we don’t even try to apply because you asked for extra job roles and responsibilities that doesn’t belong to us. This is called being cheap and cutting corners. You’re going to burn out the one single person doing this. I’ve seen a few previous job listings I’ve been denied for go right back up 3 months later.

Strategy is a key component to communications and it cannot be overlooked. All too often, social media (especially) is seen as this fun little platform we use, when in reality, it is one of our strongest tools. This means it must be taken seriously and have a strategy aligned to it.

Social Media Management is one role that always expects a person to wear over 10 hats, and work 24 hours a day but get paid peanuts and pennies. There needs to be a change, brands need to ACTIVELY take time to understand the role, create structures to support the role, and start budgeting accordingly. #Socialmediamanagement #socialmediamarketers

Absolutely, I see this as true from my experience. Hiring a social media manager today goes far beyond scheduling posts and monitoring comments. As a digital marketing expert, I’ve seen firsthand that effective social media management encompasses market research, strategic planning, creative content development, and even brand direction. Businesses must understand that these roles are integral to their growth and should be budgeted accordingly. A skilled social media manager can significantly enhance brand presence and drive engagement, making them indispensable in the modern marketing landscape.

Completely agree and I would argue it's the same for podcast editing. If you expect/want your podcast editor to write show notes, create audiograms and offer creative direction and podcast strategy then guess what? You want a podcast producer. It bugs me when my job is diluted to podcast editor because the editing is a relatively small part of the package, and one you could outsource very cheaply/do yourself/use AI tools like Descript for. As a podcast producer, I do a lot more than that. From writing clickable titles, show notes, creating artwork, audiograms, strategy, and support I do a LOT and my rates reflect that. My journalism background and almost a decade of podcast experience play into that too. That's not to say everyone needs a podcast producer because they absolutely don't. But if you know you want to start a podcast and have no time, then consider how much more than the editing you'll need to outsource.
