Double Materiality impacts sustainability reporting by requiring companies to evaluate their environmental, social, and governance matters from both financial effects and potential impacts on people and the environment. This approach aligns with global efforts and is crucial for providing relevant and faithful information on sustainability matters.
ESRS <=> TNFD is now connected to Double Materiality TNFD and EFRAG have jointly published a mapping of the correspondence between the ESRS and the TNFD’s recommended disclosures and metrics, illustrating the high level of commonality achieved. The 14 disclosures recommended by the TNFD and the ESRS requirements are both designed to provide relevant and faithful information on nature-related sustainability matters. As part of its proactive research work-plan, #EFRAG has just published a paper "#CONNECTIVITY #CONSIDERATIONS AND #BOUNDARIES OF #DIFFERENT #ANNUAL #REPORT #SECTIONS" laying out the conceptual foundations, categories and benefits of connectivity. 🌐 🔎 The paper also analyses reporting boundaries and points to several grey areas on the location of information. It suggests steps to enhance connectivity and lessen the expectation gaps around reporting boundaries.

Delving into the EFFRAG ESRS guidance document for materiality, I came across this gem, and have to say - was moved by its metaphorical comparison of nature to a silent stakeholder, brilliant and very apt, usually not "moved by" digesting EU regs and standards incidentally. FAQ 17: What is the role of silent stakeholders and how should they be considered? 204. There may be stakeholders who cannot voice their concerns, and in the ESRS nature has been identified as a silent stakeholder (ESRS 1 paragraph AR 7). Nature is an essential part of the sustainability context of the undertaking and the value chain it operates in. Nature, unlike other stakeholders, cannot voice its concerns on its own, neither verbally nor in writing. Data from scientific sources (e.g., scientific studies on the planetary boundaries or scientifically validated data) may give nature a voice as it may explain the state of nature, such as the health of bird populations, the state of water bodies or the condition of a forest."
