"Stop Grading Essays, Start Grading Chats: Reimagining Assessments" This was the topic of the seminar hosted by Amanda Bickerstaff the founder of AI for Education and Mike Kentz which introduced innovative approaches to assessment in the era of generative AI. I truely gained valuable insights into: • The significance of incorporating AI interactions into student assessments • Practical strategies for grading generative AI chats, including rubrics and step-by-step guides • Innovative approaches to fostering AI literacy and critical thinking skills • Opportunities for reimagining assessment practices in 21st-century education • Emphasizing the importance of students' relationships with AI technology • Promoting meta-cognitive practices through critical review of AI outputs • Revealing students' content knowledge, task understanding, and problem-solving abilities in new contexts #aiineducation #assessment #educationtechnology #innovativeteaching

Thank you, Matt Abraham for discussion the success of TeachersBuddy in schools, noting the positive uptake by teachers. We also recognised the opportunities AI has brought to the development of the tool, enabling efficient data collation and diverse capabilities. Educators' positive feedback and varied tool utilisation were also discussed. The dialogue delved into AI's role in education and creativity, emphasising its potential to support personalised learning experiences and foster curiosity-driven exploration. We explored AI as a research partner, enabling students to pursue inquiries independently and cultivate new ideas. We also discussed AI's value in commercial work, aiding in creative material generation and promoting self-reflection on thinking processes. Educators were encouraged to grasp and leverage AI in teaching, acknowledging both challenges and opportunities in research and education. Matt Abraham showcased TeachersBuddy's features, highlighting its resource generation, customisation options, and dashboard organisation by teaching level and international curricula. The tool's upcoming features will allow schools to add their curriculum content. The AI tool's capabilities in generating lesson plans and materials were demonstrated, emphasising ease of use and adaptability to existing resources. Looking forward to presenting our recently published paper, "Gotta Love Some Human Connection": Humanizing Data Expression in an Age of AI on behalf of Cherise McBride, Ph.D. & Lissa Soep, Ph.D. at Massachusetts Institute of Technology - MIT RAISE's AI & Education Summit tomorrow. Our paper discusses 4 key literacy practices we learned from YR Media youth and young adults working with and about Artificial Intelligence through our conceptual framework: Humanizing Data Expression (HDE): (1) contextualize: try out AI-powered features, reveal how it works; (2) unveil authorship: introduce AI creators and processes; (3) grapple: explore tensions and paradoxes; (4) play: hack, mess with, outsmart, exaggerate AI. From these insights, we end with implications of HDE as a framework for learning and teaching AI literacy, including its potential for critically transforming data literacy practice and pedagogy across schools, teaching, and teacher education.
