This week, we had the pleasure of hosting an in-depth client visit to discuss an important topic: how our biochar technology can assist in achieving Scope 3 emissions reductions. It's an alternative sustainable product. The application of biochar as a Scope 3 emissions reduction strategy merits careful scientific examination. Biochar, produced through pyrolysis of organic materials in low-oxygen conditions, creates a stable carbon structure that resists decomposition for hundreds to thousands of years. The key scientific mechanisms that make biochar effective for emissions reduction include: 1. Carbon Sequestration - Biochar converts volatile organic carbon into a recalcitrant form - Studies indicate 70-80% of biochar carbon remains stable after 100 years - Provides verifiable carbon removal from the atmosphere 2. Soil Enhancement Properties - High surface area (200-400 m²/g) improves water retention - Porous structure provides habitat for beneficial soil microorganisms - Increases cation exchange capacity, enhancing nutrient availability 3.
