🎆 Happy 4th of July! 🎆 As we celebrate Independence Day, it's a perfect time to reflect on the importance of freedom, unity, and the values that make our country great.✨ For schools, the 4th of July is more than just fireworks and barbecues. It's an opportunity to: 1. Teach History: - Engage students in lessons about the significance of Independence Day and the USA's history. #HistoryLesson #EducationalOpportunity 2. Promote Patriotism: - Encourage students to express their love for the country through creative activities like drawing, writing essays, and performing patriotic songs. 🎨📜🎶 #Patriotism #StudentEngagement 3. Foster Community: - Organize community events and parades that bring together students, parents, and teachers to celebrate and strengthen community bonds. 🏫🎉 #CommunitySpirit #TogetherWeAreStrong 4. Inspire Values: - Use this day to highlight the values of freedom, equality, and justice, and how they can be upheld in our everyday lives. #ValuesInEducation #Inspiration As we enjoy the festivities, let's also take a moment to appreciate the educators who work tirelessly to instill these values in our students year-round. 🍎📚 Happy 4th of July from all of us at HOKALI! IMPORTANT THINGS FAMILIES SHOULD HAVE FOR A BETTER SOCIETY 1.A well spelt out spirituality. It is our responsibility as parents to groom our children radically into our faith. As an educator I have seen children shying away when you ask them to give a morning prayer in class. Let's teach them never to give up their identity. 💪 2. Values. If we don't get serious about teaching our children our values and letting them live by them, society and social media will take over and I can assure you the end result will be sad. As a family what do you stand for? 3. Rules. Every family should have rules that guide it and well spelt out consequences for breaking them. This is the reason why some children cannot follow simple school rules because they have not learnt it from home. 4. Vision. Every family should have a clear focus and work towards it together as a team. They should understand the mission to avoid copying anything that they see other families doing. 5. Spending quality time together. Families should have quality time for deep conversations and play. Life is a journey of different destinations. Children grow up and leave. Sometimes opportunities for going abroad arise and we leave. So as God gives us the opportunity we should create quality time for fun and create wonderful memories together. #academia #occupyuntillicome #kingdomlife

Death, taxes, and antisemitism. I’m sick of talking about antisemitism. I’m sick of talking to my kids about it. I’m sick of having to explain to people that, yes, it is antisemitic to hold Israel to a different standard than any other country in the world. Yes, it is antisemitic to accost Jewish college kids in the hallways, just because they are wearing a kippah. I’m sick of wringing my hands about it, day after day, as my daughter starts thinking about where she wants to go to college. It's hard to know where to start in thinking about the societal failures that led us to where we are. But let’s start with ignorance. Our kids are going to college unprepared. For the most part they are either woefully under-informed about the Arab-Israeli conflict or educated in a traditional "Jewish" setting that often fails to acknowledge some of the nuance in these discussions. The result? They get to college as deer in headlights, incapable of meaningfully engaging and calling out the bullshit when they hear it. Teen Israel Academy is looking to change that. It was inspired by my own The Wexner Foundation learning, from the incredible Keren Fraiman from Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership in Chicago. Rarely have I encountered a teacher who can better engage on these tough issues than she can. So Della Heiman Goldkind and I, with the significant support of Greater Miami Jewish Federation, are launching a four-session course designed for Jewish Miami-Dade County 11th and 12th graders to dive into complex questions around Israel, anti-Semitism, the history of the region, Palestinians and the rest. Parents are given the opportunity to separately participate as well. Simply put – if you are a parent to a teen who cares about Israel and is worried about being Jewish on a college campus in 2024 and beyond, he/she should apply. Let’s give them the tools they need to thrive. The seminar is filling fast – application deadline is August 26 (available at www.teenisraelacademy.com). #antisemitism #education #college #teenagers #Israel #miami #jewish

Early childhood educators know the importance of building a strong foundation in children’s home language. But what if the family wants to focus on children’s English only? What if the child has a language delay? Our session responds to frequent ponderings for how to best support young multilingual learners. ✨
