On the 24th of April 2024, Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) published its 2024 annual call for project proposals, with the focus this year being dedicated to advancing competitive circular bio-based industries throughout Europe. Along with this call, the company announced that any successful proposals would become eligible to receive a share of 213 million euros. The call made it clear that in order to be considered, the company had to offer a proposal which aligned with one of the eighteen topics that have been created to accomplish CBE JU’s objectives. The article below discusses the recent call for projects which was made, concerning any projects which are focused on advancing Europe's circular bio-based economy. We are thrilled to announce that two PET initiatives, 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗩𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 and 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗿𝗮, both have been selected to join the prestigious 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 (𝗖𝗙𝗔) 2024 cohort!   BioVentures is an at-scale decarbonization project to establish a centralized biomass supply chain which is nearing completion of its feasibility study, and we're actively exploring financing options that align with CFA’s climate finance challenges to scale industrial decarbonization in Pakistan. Meanwhile, Revive Dera is an Afforestation, Reforestation & Revegetation(ARR) carbon project, set to restore 3800 Ha of privately owned degraded land through plantation of 4M+ native tree species during the pilot phase that will generate 1.28M VERs over 30 years, with scale-up potential of 20,000 Ha. The feasibility of the project is complete and we are securing $8M to kickstart the implementation phase.   This partnership with CFA will be instrumental in scaling operations and launching these projects to achieve widespread impact. IDB Lab has announced the results of the Sargassum Innovation Challenge, executed by Inter-American Development Bank, IDB Lab, IDB Invest, and USAID. Focused on transforming the challenges of #Sargassum into sustainable opportunities, five groundbreaking initiatives from #Barbados, Belize, Jamaica, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Trinidad and Tobago have been selected. It's always lovely to welcome new projects into the CFA family and we're delighted to introduce twelve exciting new projects in Pakistan. The #CFAPakistan team is already working hard alongside these projects to help them move closer to finding investment. The seven projects selected for our core cohort are: Ahya – offering an AI-powered platform for emission measurement and reduction, with a digital carbon marketplace, aiming to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. Five Star Foods - establishing a state-of-the-art facility to produce Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (R-PET) resin. The initiative reduces the need for virgin plastic, conserves natural resources, and lowers the carbon footprint of plastic production. Go Energy – building a 500MW floating solar project in Keenjhar Lake. It will generate clean energy, create thousands of jobs, and boost regional economic growth while reducing fossil fuel dependence and improving air quality in Pakistan. National Rural Support Programme - the Biochar Project will convert agricultural waste into biochar, enhancing soil health and boosting crop yields. This initiative reduces reliance on synthetic fertilizers, promotes environmental sustainability by sequestering carbon and lowers greenhouse gas emissions. Pakistan Environment Trust - is pioneering Pakistan's first at-scale, sustainable biomass supply chain, transforming agricultural waste into a clean energy source for industries. Quintech Sciences - aims to introduce Quintech's bio-detergents to European consumers, focusing on eco-conscious, health-conscious, and general consumer segments. VLEKTRA – with vehicles designed for the country’s tough road conditions Vlektra aims to revolutionize environmentally friendly mobility by enhancing production capacity of their zero-emission electric motorcycles. For the first time in Pakistan we are also supporting five additional projects that make up an early stage cohort: Carbon Craft - afforesting 4,000 hectares of land initially, and 35,000 hectares by 2030. It will generate revenue through project management fees, carbon credits, and sustainable agriculture. CarbonZero Ventures - transitioning low-income village families to eco-friendly cooking methods by distributing free stoves and LPG cylinders. ECCIDE Consultancy - rehabilitating 24,000 hectares of rangeland in Sindh, focusing on sustainability, ecotourism, agroforestry and social inclusion. ECCIDE Consultancy - promoting sustainable cooking to cut indoor pollution and emissions in Malakand, Pakistan. NEWS l Focused on developing new textile solutions from marine and terrestrial biomass l www.micasaestucasa.en The TexMaTer consortium, focused on developing new textile solutions from marine and terrestrial biomass, has already started work. In all, 16 partners from six different nationalities are involved in working to minimize the environmental impact of the textile and clothing industry. BlueBioAlliance, A4F, JF Almeida, HeiQ Iberia, Inovafil, Confetil, Mi Casa es tu Casa, CITEVE and the Municipality of Famalicão are all involved. ‘We’re going to work on different fronts to improve sustainability in textile processes. We want to tackle the excess of synthetic fibres and fibres like cotton that use a lot of water,’ sums up Ana Gonçalves, from CITEVE. Mi Casa es tu Casa is also in more than one workpackage: ‘with our growing commitment and focus on certified and more sustainable raw materials, we have embraced the TexMater project to obtain new textile solutions from marine and terrestrial biomass,’ Vanessa Silva, head of product development, told T Jornal.   Read here: https://lnkd.in/dFrncYeA
