3rd event of International Lectures cycle “Visualizing and Defending Values in Architectural Heritage Changes” Scientific Chairs: Dr. Raffaella De Marco, PD. Dr. Izabella Parowicz Organizing Secretariat: Arch. Rola Abu Hilal Register here: https://lnkd.in/dv5QCfyj The cycle of lectures intends to address issues on the cultural, social, economic, and archaeological values associated with Architectural Heritage, in particular highlighting the application of digital technologies, from documentation to 3D representation, and the opportunities for dissemination and interaction through #narrativedigitalenvironments. The study theme defines a dynamic framework for in-depth studies and reflections on Cultural Heritage, where history and community contribute to writing a changing vision between #memory and #actuality. In this way, the value and significance of #ArchitecturalHeritage can be consciously directed towards its understanding, sharing and protection by the civil society. The third event is organised on 3 panels: “#Spirituality”, “#Conditionality”, “#Aesthetics”, and features international professors and researchers from Italy, Portugal, Poland, Malta, Cyprus and Iraq. Among the presented research, international projects, research activities and innovative actions between academic and professional sectors for the valorisation and interdisciplinary address of Architectural Heritage protection. “I refer to the state of being a guest as guesthood and claim that existing through this continuous mode of becoming a guest means becoming an infidel to yourself. Guesthood is about being open to the possibility that you are not the sole host of a property, a place, or a territory.” In JAE 78.1 “Auto-Infidelities: A Guest at Home and Beyond,” author Nazlı Tümerdem discusses critical walking as a mobile, performative, and participatory practice employed in spatial research. By reading this essay, readers are prompted to reflect on how they can shift the existing roles and hierarchies of who is the guest and who is the host – through auto-infidelities – as a way to accept the simultaneous existence of manifold worlds, existences, and types of knowledge. ❗️ JAE 78.1 is available to read for FREE with open access through April 30, 2024. During our course RESEARCH with teenagers, we explore the connection between architecture and people's lives. In one of the recent classes, we examined the relationship between food and the city. How does the cultivation, processing, and sale of food impact the life and landscape of cities and countries? What is the legal status of agriculture in a global context? One of the case studies we discussed was the Spanish Pavilion at the 2023 Architecture Biennale in Venice, titled "FOODSCAPES." It's during adolescence that students begin to show interest in and delve into serious issues, and we aim to unpack these topics, highlight their diversity, and show how architects address them. #architecturalthinking #architecturaleducation #architecturalthinkingschool #architectureforteens

Herrnhut awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status: Research network on the Herrnhut archives 🎉 UNESCO recently declared the #Moravian Church Settlements in the small Saxon town of #Herrnhut a #WorldHeritage Site. In doing so, it honors the teachings and ideologies of this globally active community, which have manifested themselves in landscape #architecture and site planning, for example. 🧑🔬 Did you know that researchers at #TUDresden are working with international partners in the Moravian Knowledge Network to make the archives of the #MoravianChurch accessible and to #research it from different perspectives? 💻 Researchers from different disciplines are coming together here and rediscovering the Moravian #archives individually and together under the auspices of the #DigitalHumanities. I am glad that my article titled “Participant Observation and Community Design: An Anthropological Inquiry of the Western District Public Cargo Working Area” has been published in the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (HKIA) Journal, Issue 79 - Community. The Western District Public Cargo Working Area (WDPCWA), commonly known as Sai Wan Pier or the Instagram Pier, was once celebrated as an exemplar of public space in Hong Kong. The Marine Department has closed the Pier in March 2021 during the pandemic and no public access were further allowed. More precisely, the management department has strictly enforced the rule of entrance. Whilst there are only limited structured urban studies regarding the Pier, this article, extracted from my thesis for the degree of Master in Design Studies at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 2017, is one of these few studies. It analyzes three major aspects observed in the WDPCWA which hopefully could shed light to future community design, namely spatial practice, perception of space and tacit agreement. The article is available at below link and you may wish to order a copy:- www.hkia-journal.net #publicspace #instagrampier #saiwanpier #urbanstudies #designanthropology #undesignedspace

IstanbulSMD is organizing the first leg of the international conference series titled "What Does Architecture Do?" in order to emphasize the role, perception and sphere of influence of the architectural profession in the society within the challenging conditions in our country and our surrounding geography. While focusing on the healing role of architecture in our geography where wars and earthquakes are intensely experienced, it also plans to evaluate the needs of humanity in this period in the context of architecture, using the "hierarchy of needs" theory of American psychologist Abraham Maslow. The sessions in the conference program will focus on the basic characteristics of good architecture by looking for at least one of Vitruvius' concepts of "utilitas, firmitas and venustas" that define good architecture. #WhatIsArchitectureFor #MimarlıkNeİşeYarar #Firmitas #Utilitas #Venustas #Vitruvius #DeArchitectura #AbrahamMaslow #ISMD #İstanbulMimarlarDerneği #KonseptProjeler #KP #ConceptsandProjects
