"As time goes on, this binary [of right vs wrong] 'creates this level of perfectionism where it’s really hard to be wrong because it feels like your whole person is inherently wrong.'" When we realize we're wrong, we often have a physical reaction. That "wrongness" can be felt in our bodies. This leads many of us to double-down or get heated, because it *feels* like this feeling is at our core, the core of who we are. We talk to clients about the difference between our identities and our thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. When something we think, believe, or feel is challenged, we (the human) are still okay. We are not our thoughts. We are not our feelings. We are separate from and merely engaging with them (or not). This is a huge component of the work we do and a huge part of growing and maturing for all of us. You're not going to get it RIGHT overnight and there's nothing WRONG with that. Taking accountability and having compassion for yourself shouldn't be mutually exclusive. A therapist can help. The European Commission has opened a second formal proceedings against TikTok under the Digital Services Act (DSA) raising concerns about new app's role in digital addiction: The investigation focuses on TikTok Lite's recent launch in France and Spain, particularly honing in on the "Task and Reward Program". This feature, allowing users to earn points by engaging in various activities like watching videos and liking content, has raised concerns about its potential addictive effects, especially among minors. Under the DSA, Very Large Online Platforms like TikTok are required to conduct thorough risk assessments before introducing new functionalities with significant systemic impact. However, the Commission suspects that TikTok may have rolled out the Task and Reward Program without adequate evaluation of its potential risks and without implementing effective mitigation measures. Key areas of investigation include: - Compliance with DSA Obligations: Did TikTok fulfill its obligation to submit a risk assessment report before launching the Task and Reward Program, considering its potential negative impact on mental health, especially among minors? - Risk Mitigation Measures: What steps did TikTok take to address the risks associated with the Task and Reward Program, particularly in terms of addictive behavior and mental health concerns?

"We understand that what makes news news is often its tragic element: crime, war, destruction, death. Add to this the pain of watching a political regime that one opposes and the news becomes unbearable. At the same time, we’re in a cultural moment that, quite positively, is marked by an enhanced focus on mental health and openly confronting personal struggles. News can be too much. It could be that Trump’s reelection sparks a journalistic renaissance, echoing the parade of quality investigative journalism that emerged during his first term. It could be we rely on journalists more than ever when faced with threats of democratic backsliding. It could be that journalism provides some semblance of solidarity. But it could also be that, for many, 2025 marks a receding of news from our consciousness as a way of coping with deeply felt confusion and fear. Instead of engaging in endless updates and doomscrolling, we may instead turn inward, away from news. If this is the case, the implications go far beyond what this means for the news industry to instead question the state of our collective sensemaking as we face the unknown."
“We’re in a cultural moment that, quite positively, is marked by an enhanced focus on mental health and openly confronting personal struggles. News can be too much," Matt Carlson writes.

Are you an absolutist thinker? 🤨 When was the last time you challenged your assumptions and views? Check out this article (served to me by Dense Discovery a few days ago) on why it's better to become curious rather than furious when faced with potentially polarising views... even your own! It's also a very handy guide on how to survive misinformation 😅 Examining the consensus is often safer than diving into the views of individuals. #Communication #Misinformation #PR #FakeNews #Opinions https://lnkd.in/eeZzhK2Y

"People report high levels of well-being while spending time with their friends, romantic partners, and children. Social interaction with trusted companions has been found to help stave off depression. Even chatting with acquaintances and strangers promotes happiness and belonging" Self-care is vital, but remember: socialization is a form of self-care. Humans needs social interaction, the same way we need food. Its a nourishment. It's a necessity, not an "indulgence". Behind the Lens: Supporting the Mental Health of Journalists During Mental Health Awareness Month, we highlight the crucial, yet often overlooked, emotional challenges faced by journalists like Carlos Gonzalez of the San Francisco Chronicle. Documenting impactful human experiences since 1997, Gonzalez describes how deeply he absorbs the emotions captured through his lens, carrying the residue of anguish and sorrow long after the shots are taken. This deep emotional engagement is not unique to him but is a common thread among journalists who often witness life's most extreme moments up close. Hearst has acknowledged the significant impact of such experiences, prompting the integration of dedicated mental health resources to support their journalists. A notable initiative includes the hiring of Mariah Winslow, an in-house clinician specializing in trauma, providing timely and tailored support. This strategic move not only aids in addressing the immediate mental health needs but also fosters long-term resilience among journalists, ensuring that those who keep us informed are also well-supported emotionally. https://lnkd.in/g9Vyqt-U #journalist #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #emotions #mentalhealthsupport #psychotherapy #psychotherapist #resilience
