We are excited to share our latest paper, “Dual C-Cl isotope fractionation offers potential to assess biodegradation of 1,2-dichloropropane and 1,2,3-trichloropropane by Dehalogenimonas cultures,” now available in open access in Chemosphere. Our research provides new insights into the microbial reductive dechlorination mechanisms of these hazardous chemicals, commonly found in groundwater near agricultural zones due to their historical use in chlorinated fumigant formulations. This study opens the door to applying isotope techniques for evaluating their biodegradation in field studies. This achievement is a result of the fruitful collaboration between MAiMA (Clara Torrentó and Mònica Rosell) and the Biorem group (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) under the leadership of Ernest Marco Urrea. 🤔 PROSPLIGN’s #innovativeapproach lies within its core #conceptualisation. Traditional #lignin #depolymerisation methods utilise forcing conditions 🔪 ✂ 🔨 ⛏ which destroy lignin’s native rich #chemical #functionality and potential for #bioactivity. The PROSPLIGN partners have designed an innovative set of #research #processes 🔬 ⚙ based upon mild, selective methods which preserve lignin’s native #chemical #diversity – unlocking the door to explore lignin as a resource for #bioprospecting. 🌍 🪐Exciting Biochar Conference in Santa Marta, Colombia! We are thrilled to announce that next year, Sirius Regenerative will be participating in a pivotal Biochar conference in Santa Marta. Our mission is to advance Biochar production through cutting-edge pyrolysis technology, reaching global markets and making meaningful connections. This conference is a fantastic opportunity to deepen our understanding of the market, build strong associations, and establish clear, functional working routes. By uniting all Biochar producers and stakeholders, we can promote sustainable practices and ensure we meet global carbon removal standards. Our goal is to position ourselves as leaders in permanent CO2 removal solutions. Together, we can create a robust community that supports all players in the Biochar industry, regardless of size. This collaboration is essential for fostering innovation and driving positive change. Join us in advocating for regulations that emphasize not just carbon reduction but substantial carbon removal. Together, we can make a lasting impact and showcase Colombia as a key contributor to global CO2 removal efforts. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach this exciting event! 🚀 #Biochar #Sustainability #CarbonRemoval #Networking #Innovation #SiriusRegenerative #ClimateAction
Another great location for a biochar conference - Colombia - one of my favorite countries on the planet! Abstracts due November 30, 2024. There is a lot of biochar activity going on all over Colombia including, I am convinced, biochar created and used in the production of a beautiful black Colombian pottery called La Chamba!

"Algae: the unsung heroes of our planet. These microscopic organisms are the lungs of the Earth, producing over half of the world's oxygen and forming the base of the aquatic food chain. Beyond their ecological role, algae hold promise in biofuel production, carbon sequestration, and as a sustainable source of food and pharmaceuticals. Embracing the potential of algae means investing in a greener, more sustainable future for all." _ 🌟Completing the algae introduction course is a significant step for me as someone passionate about algae. 🥳🥳🥳 _Algae Basics _ Algal Diversity _ Algal Ecology _ Algae bio manufacturing This modules which the course contains deepen my understanding of Algae ecological impact and potential in sustainability, opening new doors for research and innovation in the algae industry. Excited for the journey ahead! _Thanks for UC San Diego and ATEC for this opportunity . #UssanDiego #ATEC #algae #biofuel

🌱 Spotlight on Research: Isabel Siles Asaff 🌱 At Soils2Guts, we are excited to show a glimpse the work of one of our talented PhD candidates, Isabel Siles Asaff, who is delving into the fascinating world beneath our feet: soil. As part of her research, Isabel is investigating soil microbial biomass—an essential indicator of soil health. She collects soil samples directly from the field using a soil core, which she brings back to the lab for further analysis. In the lab, the soil undergoes several steps: it is shaken in a salt solution, filtered, and finally prepared for measuring microbial biomass. This video gives you a glimpse of the process as she weighs the soil for these critical measurements. Isabel’s work is a fascinating reminder of the incredible diversity and activity happening within soil—and how understanding it can help us protect ecosystems and improve sustainable practices. 🌍 🎥 Watch the video to see Isabel in action! #SoilScience #Research #PhDSpotlight #MicrobialBiomass #SoilHealth #Soils2Guts Bac2nature Marco Van Es Lune Walder Annick Diekman Jeroen Maljaars Maarten Tushuizen Young Hae Choi Sofia Gomes Marieke Elfferich Shana Hepping Daniel Rozen Gerard Breeman Peter van Bodegom Jan Willem Erisman Sahar El Aidy Diana Ilyaskina Ciska Veen Wim van der Putten Emiel Elferink Martina Sura-de Jong Pauline Drost Daisy Jonkers John Penders Andre van der Wurff PhD Bart van Meurs Dirk Zwinkels Marco van Gurp Petra Boorsma Milan Franssen René Verhoeven Eric van der Graaff Rob Baan

We just opened our pilot facility at Turun yliopisto - University of Turku 🇫🇮 The team around Yagut Allahverdiyeva-Rinne and SEMA SIRIN installed a fully operational facility to validate the REALM concept at pilot scale in Northern Europe. They will test the feasibility to grow microalgae in drain water of soilless greenhouses, specifically under the climatic and light conditions of Northern Europe. Data of all parameters will be collected throughout the tests. The results are essential for scale up of the concept also in colder climates. In the validation plant, we will also test the direct CO2 capture technology. #REALMalgae #Microalgae #WastewaterTreatment
Congratulations to the University of Turku, particularly the Molecular Plant Biology Unit, on last week's successful inauguration of their new Algal Validation Facility, Algatech. At the event, Prof. Yagut Allahverdiyeva-Rinne, Dr. SEMA SIRIN, and our Innovation Manager, Mariana Carneiro, delivered insightful presentations on the nuances of microalgae production and the REALM algae project. The REALM project, a cornerstone of this facility, is pioneering decentralized microalgae production adjacent to soilless production greenhouses. The approach uses agricultural drainage as a key input of water and nutrients to turn waste into value. As such, this facility is crucial to demonstrating the necessary adaptations of microalgae cultivation at higher latitudes, as the heavy snowfall on the inauguration day showed.
