I'm still consuming and digesting the sessions from the #IDGSummit2024 - so good! If you're not aware of the #InnerDevelopmentGoals, they're a non-profit, open-source initiative committed to fostering inner development towards more sustainable futures. Inner growth for outer change - I'm here for it! I loved this quote from Erik Fernholm, a co-initiator of the IDGs: "We're not facing a sustainability crisis, we're facing a behavioural crisis." So true - we can see the future forming in front of us and still we don't change the way we think, feel and act in the world. We were grateful to host Ashoka fellow, Shaun Loney, at Pond-Deshpande Centre's 2nd Social Enterprise Symposium on October 4th. Shaun's main message was encouraging non-profits to consider the 2nd type of government money: procurement. Shaun pointed out that the vast majority of government money goes to procurement and not funding. It poses the question to non-profits of: How can we harness market tools to create value while also meeting our mission? It's possible. We spent the afternoon touring a number of social enterprises who were doing just that - Kaleidoscope Social Impact, Saint John Learning Exchange, Saint John Tool Library & DIY Workshop, and Key Industries.
