International TD Summer School 2024 in Catalonia (Spain) (MA/PhD)    From September 14th until September 20th 2024 the tdAcademy will host their 3rd International Summer School on Transdisciplinary Methods, organised by ISST/UPC and ZTG/TUB. Transdisciplinary research and practice is an approach that allows to bring together different perspectives from science and society and to catalyse the solution of real-world problems.    We're in a world undergoing significant change, dealing with issues like climate change, biodiversity loss, hunger, and inequality. Urgently, we need sustainable solutions, requiring adaptability and collaboration across disciplines and sectors. No single approach suffices; we must collectively work towards a sustainable society.   This year the summer school focuses on land use conflicts in the region of Alt Empordá, Spain. It offers Master and PhD students from technologically-oriented disciplines (e.g. engineering, planning, environmental studies) as well as from other fields (e.g. social sciences) the great opportunity to gain insights into the basics and challenges of transdisciplinary research and practice. We will convey central know-how of how to plan a transdisciplinary project in different steps, gain experiences with carrying out methods for transdisciplinary research and get insights for your own thesis. A lot of people have asked me how I started my journey in climate action and sustainability—especially after winning the 2024 International Student of the Year Premier’s Award and the Higher Education Category at the Victorian International Education Awards by Study Melbourne. 🌱💡 For me, it started with curiosity. Seeing the impacts of climate change around me made me want to understand: What is climate change? Why is it happening? And what can we do about it? I realized that to take action, I first needed to understand. I asked questions, explored resources, and sought out opportunities to grow my knowledge. Each step deepened my understanding of the challenges we face and the solutions we can create. Learning gave me the foundation to act—and continues to guide me every day. My climate action has since focused on creating learning experiences for others, especially young people. Now, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve co-designed a series of workshops on climate change—created by international students, for international students. 🌟 I never imagined I could co-design and facilitate something for international students like me—especially on a topic as multidisciplinary as climate change, which deeply affects global mobility and equity. The Royal Academy of Engineering is calling on innovators, researchers, scientists and engineers to apply for the Green Future Fellowships programme. Over the next five years, it will award £150 million to at least 50 of the best ideas and scalable technologies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change. 🌱 The programme will award Green Future Fellows with up to £3m ($3.9m) each to scale their ambitious ideas over 10 years into commercially viable projects capable of making a lasting, positive impact for the climate. 🌍 Applicants can come from any country, however, as a UK-funded initiative, they must locate their work in the UK. According to the Times Higher Education magazine's ranking, Kabul Polytechnic University ranked 101st out of 924 universities worldwide. This magazine evaluated and ranked 924 universities from 103 countries based on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals regarding climate change.

The UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering has launched the Green Future Fellowships programme, which will award £150 million to up to 50 of the best ideas and scalable technologies essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and for adapting to the impacts of climate change. Over the next five years, it will award at least 50 Green Future Fellows with up to £3m ($3.9m/€3.6m) each to scale their ambitious ideas for up to 10 years into commercially viable projects capable of making a lasting, positive impact for the climate. The programme launches as the climate crisis necessitates urgent and ambitious solutions. 2023 was the warmest year on record, with the global average temperature 1.45°C above pre-industrial levels. Greenhouse gas emissions reached a record high of 57.4 gigatonnes in 2023 - they must drop by 43% by 2030 (compared to 2019 levels) to keep temperature increase from exceeding 1.5°C. The world is not on course to meet this goal, with almost half of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change members believing the world will breach 3°C of global warming by 2050. Against this backdrop, engineering will play a critical role in solving the climate crisis with many potential solutions on the cusp of success. The Green Future Fellowships will provide the space and time to transform these cutting-edge ideas into scalable, long-lasting solutions for the climate. The programme will fund both new ideas and existing initiatives from a diverse range of people – from innovators to engineers, academics to scientists – regardless of their background or career stage.
