Dear #DPP community, the European Commission has lately published a very comprehensive "Frequently asked Questions" (#FAQ) document clearifying point from the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation #ESPR. I thought, I'd share it with you. [News 🇪🇺]🗣️ “It is time to end the model of “take, make, dispose” that is so harmful to our planet, our health and our economy” said rapporteur Alessandra Moretti the EP adopted the revision of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation #ESPR this Tuesday – a long-awaited new chapter of the #EUGreenDeal! 💪🏻♻️ The new rules aim to make products more durable and reliable, easier to reuse, upgrade, repair and recycle. At eolos | engineering the future, we are happy to welcome this new add-on to the EU #CircularEconomy package.   🔍 New Digital Product Passport #DPP This key feature will enable EU businesses and consumers to make better purchasing decisions by scanning a QR code! It will contain accurate and up-to-date environmental information, on the durability and reparability of a product, of its recycled content, or the availability of its spare parts. What an innovation! ⏰ The introduction of the #DPP will be outlined in later secondary legislation but we already encourage producers to anticipate these upcoming exciting challenges! The European Union is driving the transition towards a circular economy, and one of the key tools it is utilizing is the #DigitalProductPassport (DPP). Finishing line for the European Parliament: #Ecodesign, #Packaging and #Right2Repair adopted. Last hurdle: formal adoption in the Council. Our assessment ⤵ 🌿📦 Packaging #PPWR at least provides planning stability to SMEs. Whether the regulation is workable for #SMEs in practice remains to be seen. We will keep an eye on that. 🔧 #Ecodesign #ESPR has the potential to boost SMEs going #circular. However, the devil’s in the details: we need planning security on how the #DigitalProductPassport (#DPP) works and which products will be affected first. Everyone is in „listening mode“ today, in „election mode“ tomorrow. And then? Then we’ll make sure that it’s time for an #SME-fit „implementation mode“! #SMEs4Europe

The #trilogues on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation #PPWR 📦 are ongoing, with a second meeting scheduled on the 4th of March. In view of the interinstitutional negotiations, EFIC provided recommendations to EU policymakers. Our comments are aimed at ensuring #harmonised rules at EU level when it comes to labelling requirements and sorting instructions for packaging waste.   ✔️We believe that Member States shall not be allowed to maintain or introduce sustainability or information requirements additional to the ones laid down in the Regulation, as additional national requirements can lead to potential trade barriers or distortions of competition.   ✔️We recommend avoiding the introduction of national labelling requirements for the purpose of identifying EPR schemes, as disparate national labelling requirements result in internal market barriers with limited environmental benefit. We support the Council’s position, as it clarifies that packaging included in an extended producer responsibility scheme may be identified throughout the territory of the Member States in which that scheme or system applies only by means of a corresponding symbol in a QR code or other standardised digital marking technology. We also recommend allowing the EPR symbols widely through ‘digital channels’ and not only ‘a QR code or other standardized digital marketing technology’. This will include information online or in the Digital Product Passport under the upcoming Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, #ESPR.
