The automotive sector is a significant contributor to the GDP, through employment, manufacturing and exports and it is important that we, as South African stakeholders, collaborate to lead the sector and our country to a prosperous future. Some of the standout messages I heard yesterday: - We need to improve our education access and quality for all children, from pre-primary to tertiary levels, to create a future talent pool for the sector. - Policies need to assist in helping our value chains to be globally competitive and cost efficient. - The industry will continue to be disrupted in South Africa with new innovation - as it has done over the last 100 years. We need to prepare and plan strategically to be part of that innovation curve and remain relevant in the future. - South Africans can achieve miracles when we work together, leveraging our differences. The ambition this industry is defining for South Africa in these few days, will require an entire team of players to play together. The Captains of the Industry will need to lead boldly.
