🌍 ALBATROSS aims to ground its research and innovation actions in #Africa, by developing its activities in and together with the local communities strategically selected in 5 countries in sub-Saharan Africa: #Tanzania, #Kenya, #Gahana, #SouthAfrica and #Madagascar. 🌀 The engine of this process is embodied in the establishment of the Climate-Resilience Development Network, which represents a pan-African and transnational structure integrating indigenous communities with local research and policy organisations, which is articulated on different levels. The hubs are one of them. They consist of well-developed territorial communities managed directly or indirectly by the project partners; they represent the network hubs and are the fundamental unit on which the project actions are based. 🌱The hubs are stable in contexts that are crucial for the socio-economic and political interests of the countries and suffer not only from the #climate and environmental deterioration pressures but also from the economic and social pressures that climate change triggers. The hubs will work in synergy on three key issues for #ALBATROSS and of strong interest to the countries involved; these are Environmental-Socio-Economic Vulnerability, Internal Migration, and Natural Hazards. 💚 #HorizonEU #EU #ClimateServices #NBS #Nature #research #project

Obakeng Kgethe, Broll IFM: Business Development Executive, and Yusayn Núñez Yáñez, Head of PMO, recently attended the Built Environment Climate Change Indaba, held on 7th-8th November 2024 at Sibusisiwe Hall in Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal. Organised by the Council for the Built Environment, this key event brought together leaders from across the built environment sector to address the critical need for climate resilience and sustainable development in South Africa. With the theme “Co-creation of Spaces and Places that Respond to the Just Transition,” the Indaba focused on discussions around sustainable building standards, Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS), and strategies for developing climate-resilient communities. Through interactive sessions and panel discussions, attendees explored how to reduce the environmental impact of the built environment while promoting social equity and economic opportunity. Events like the Indaba are essential for driving meaningful, sustainable change in South Africa’s built environment. By engaging with industry leaders and policymakers, Obakeng and Yusayn gained valuable insights into how collaborative and innovative approaches can enhance resilience efforts across the country. #EcosystemBasedAdaptation | We're thrilled to see this amazing project explore in this video from the Green Climate Fund. Climate change and unsustainable land management practices are deteriorating the puna ecosystems—comprising peatlands, wetlands, and grasslands—and their vital services such as water regulation, food and fibre provision, and carbon regulation in Peru’s Southern High Andes (SHAP). The E Co. team support Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH within project preparation, helping to bring about a paradigm shift in managing puna ecosystems for increased climate resilience among vulnerable rural communities.
