Fascinating discussion on the importance and challenges of proving provenance and the possible (disastrous) consequences if you don't. Brilliant expert panelist Angelina Giovani-Agha giving some fascinating insights into the processes involved. An excellent listen! If you are interested in attending a workshop with Angelina hosted by us on Due Diligence and Research Strategies, please email social@hallettindpendent.com to register your interest. #artmarket #provenance #duediligence
I had a wonderful experience this morning as a guest on BBC4 "Start of the Week", along with the National Gallery curator of the new Caravaggio show Francesca Whitlum-Cooper and Orlando Whitfield author of the brilliant new book "All that glitters". We spoke about provenance, risk in the art market and Caravaggio's innovative approach to well known subject matters! Thank you to @BB4, Natalia Fernandez, Katy Hickman and Tom Sutcliffe for having me! you can have a listen to the episode below: https://lnkd.in/eEg2PbZC

Prof. Yana Meerzon and I authored a chapter about the Russian case for The Palgrave Handbook of Theatre Censorship, which was published today electronically, and will appear as a physical book in January 2025. The Handbook is a wide-ranging, incisive and compelling collection of reflections and case studies on the theatre industry’s relationship to censorship and self-censorship from a historical and contemporaneous perspective.

Tuesday Thoughts: How different things feel already. A new gov't means new possibilities for what arts/theatre can say about what it does. 'World class', 'life-changing', 'connecting communities' etc etc etc But is this language inclusive enough? Do words like 'excellence' bring us together or strike fear in those of us for whom excellence is the only option? How do we use the opportunity to find a new language that takes into account that many people aren't looking for arts/theatre to change their lives but to share our lives? If there's one word/phrase we should let go of as we say 'hello' to new possibilities, what would it be for you?

dears 🩷 on October 1, we will open our new season in Zurich with "solaris1994", VHS immersive story, which captures a family frozen in the mid-90s and living inside a mockumentary about the (non)Martian chronicles. This is a new piece from our theater company (I’ve attached a link to a teaser from the premiere of our recent opera production https://lnkd.in/eG4N9gd9). And for me, as a director, this is also my first experience with documentary research based on my family archive, from which the project is created, and turned into a kitschy meta-story about separation from loved ones. Afterward, we will share many of our plans for this season 🔥 The opening will take place in one of the friendly artistic spaces we are also glad to develop — miu off space, located in the old town. It’s a very intimate event, and tickets are available here https://lnkd.in/eKG-Tw9q. This is our fourth piece so far, and we continue to work without any consistent (or occasional🌸) support. Our initiative not only aims to establish a new theater company but also to use it as a lens to explore economic processes within the cultural sector. We are documenting the process of building connections with institutions, local artists, art scene in Switzerland, while also exploring our potential "emergence" in this context — finding our own identity within these processes and discovering our audience.

"The mind knows more than the eye sees, and the ear hears more than the words say." – Viola Spolin ImproLANDS uses improvisation to tap into the unspoken histories and emotions of remote communities, bringing their deepest stories to light. ImproLANDS is more than just a project; it’s a movement that aims to bring artistic collaboration and mobility to areas that often feel disconnected from the cultural pulse of Europe. Imagine a small village in a remote region, where the landscape may be quiet, but the stories are rich and waiting to be told. With the arrival of improvisational theatre artists, these places become stages, and their people – their lives, struggles, and hopes – become the core of performances. Through improvisation, artists and locals alike create a dialogue, where everyone participates and no one is left behind. In regions affected by depopulation or natural disasters, communities can often feel isolated or forgotten. That’s where ImproLANDS comes in. We’re fostering artistic encounters where artists work closely with local community members to capture their stories and memories. These stories are transformed into vibrant performances, creating a living history that connects the past with the present, and strengthens social bonds. #ImproLANDS #CulturalConnection #ImprovisationMatters #ArtForChange #CulturalResilience #CreativeEurope #ImprovTheatre #CommunityEmpowerment Las cosas que hacemos Impro Impar Accademia56 Emanuela Del Savio Mario D'Ingianna Fabio Ambrosini @GianlucaBudini Daniele Pettinari

A galvanising start to the week with some fantastic new qualitative research from Milk Crate Theatre that thoroughly articulates how the community engaged arts sector provides crucial spaces for community connection, resilience-building and escape. Move over “Hamilton,” particle physics is the inspiration for the next Broadway musical theater mega hit! The musical “Particle Fever” is currently in development, based on the 2013 documentary that chronicles the groundbreaking scientific work behind the discovery of the “Higgs boson” at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. The playwriting genius busy at work is David Henry Hwang (Tony Award winner of “M. Butterfly” fame) with music and lyrics by Bear McCreary (Emmy Award winner - “The Walking Dead”) and Zoe Sarnak. The production is directed by Leigh Silverman. This musical combines the high-stakes world of particle physics with a deeply human and humorous narrative, focusing on the scientists' journey as they uncover some of the universe's greatest mysteries. The show explores the nature of scientific discovery and ambition, while aiming to make complex concepts engaging and entertaining for audiences. I’ve got my eye on this one. Can’t wait! #physics #theatre #whatinspiresme
