Congratulations Nadah Feteih and Sujata Mukherjee on this exciting and important initiative to diversify the Trust and Safety ecosystem. Taking this opportunity to share two compelling pieces authored by the co-chairs of the GMRC for Tech Policy Press. 1) Sujata Mukherjee along with Jan Eißfeldt analyzed the underlying forces driving the Trust and Safety industry. https://lnkd.in/dSzXPjBR 2) Nadah Feteih and Elodie Vialle urged tech companies to work with individuals that have expertise working with at-risk communities to better address online harms in a scalable and sustainable way https://lnkd.in/dYuZw_v3
I’m excited to share the launch of the Global Majority Research Committee (GMRC), the newest committee hosted by the Trust & Safety Foundation Research Coalition, that I’ll be co-chairing with Sujata Mukherjee. Our goal is to create a more equitable Trust & Safety (T&S) ecosystem by elevating the expertise of Majority World voices in product design, policy development, and organizational practices. We hope to collaborate with other Trust & Safety practitioners, civil society organizations, and academics. If you're interested in getting involved let us know in the comments or send us a message.

There are a lot of hidden histories in education that we still need to uncover and, to borrow loosely from Paulo Freire, you are the best expert in your own history within education, so what missing stories do you think need to be told? Why not tell them yourself? Help the Organization of Educational Historians tell the missing stories - attend the “From Prosposal to Publication” session and learn more how your work can help restore history within the history of education that we have missed. #History #Education
Mark your calendars! Our second annual virtual workshop "From Proposal to Publication" is Saturday November 16, 2024 from 10am-12pm EST. Graduate students, junior faculty, and anyone interested in learning how to transform your OEH conference proposal to a manuscript submission to The American Educational History Journal are encouraged to attend! Please register here https://lnkd.in/eKD8sQdp and email OEHMembershipcoordinator@gmail.com if you have any questions!

Data and research evidence play a crucial role in emergency decision-making. Yesterday, I had the privilege of presenting at the Educational Continuity in Emergency Forum at the Samuel Neaman Institute, exploring the key aspects of this topic. The presentation covered how quality information can significantly improve decision-making processes, the types of data most essential for decision-makers, and the unique challenges of collecting and analyzing information during educational emergencies. Special thanks to the Forum leaders - Dr. @Einat Rafaeli Shoshan, Dr. Tsipy buchnik, and Prof. Orit Hazzan for the opportunity to contribute to this important discourse at the Samuel Neaman Institute. #Education #DecisionMaking #EmergencyManagement #EducationalResearch #EducationInEmergency

I had a great time in Orlando at the Center for Public Safety Excellence conference, presenting with Vince Anderson (Who had the idea we should go and talk) on the topic of moving research practice. I discussed the issue of non-collaboration or stalemate between academics and researchers from the perspective of a design problem. This problem extends from the university research level to fire departments needing to evaluate the effectiveness of the insights they operationalize from research conclusions and send back to researchers. Along the way, the need to metabolize knowledge debt around innovations before deployment and the accumulation of this debt was discussed, as well as being cautious with how many new research-to-practice elements are being introduced at once in the interest of evaluation, designing ways to cancel a research-to-practice experiment quickly, and creating experiments that make explicit the need for fire overhead to be moving at a slower speed than the experiment for observation, pattern detection, and seeing opportunities (Cilliers).

Why do we need a center? What can we accomplish with a P- or U- level grant that we can’t with an R-level grant? These questions and more should be part of the discussion when deciding whether to submit an NIH P or U application. Let us guide you through the decision-making process: https://zurl.co/Zd9A
