Accounting roles are taking longer to fill than anticipated, up to 4 months according to some sources. When roles are open for this long, it puts a lot of stress on the accounting staff to manage their workloads in addition to the vacant role. Teams covering a vacancy, can be overworked which can lead to burnout, frustration, and stress among team members. After speaking with both employees and employers, it’s clear that quick and accurate hiring is crucial. Leaving roles vacant too long risks losing more staff. Filling positions faster helps reduce pressure on the team, keeps productivity up, and prevents further turnover.

The "you don't know what you don't know problem" is one of the biggest problems employees face. That's why it's so key to have sponsors and friends at companies to warn you about things that quite frankly, you don't know until you experience. Furthermore, experienced managers should keep a list of random nice to knows to help new team members. You need someone to tell you that xyz in accounting is slow and abc is fast so if you need something send it to abc. You need someone to tell you that to finish what you seemingly think is a very straightforward process hr, legal, procurement, and accounting need to sign it which will take at least 2 weeks. Basically, bureaucracy is inevitable and if you do not have someone to advise you beforehand, you will learn the hard way before course correcting.
