As we continue our journey of transformation and growth, our CEO, Rita-Rose Gagné, shared our Full Year 2023 financial results with EG and discussed Hammerson's strategic progress and future opportunities. The opportunities in our portfolio come from the quality and location of our destinations - the best assets in the very best prime city centre catchments with transportation hubs. “We now want to reinvest in our portfolio and continue to repurpose space, deliver the best space adapted to the new demand and also the best amenities for people who live in city centres or who come to visit. What excites me about the portfolio is this notion of buzzing 24/7 city centre assets that are living spaces. It’s about assets that have a purpose in their community.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eiTjqTMb

Like many, I'm uncomfortable with self-promotion. BUT I will put myself in the spotlight if it means I can redirect the light towards an issue that's not getting enough airtime. That's why I said yes when Leanne Hodyl asked me to write about apartment retrofitting for sustainability in Cities People Love. In the world of apartment retrofitting, I've come to see myself as a bridge. I know a lot, and I still have a lot to learn. I am connected to a lot of stakeholders, and there's always room for more people at this particular table. Wherever I can be the bridge to connect ideas, people, or organisations, I will try to make it happen. One of the many ways I (and my Let Me Be Frank. colleagues) act as a bridge, is through High Life Expo, first held in earlier this year, and in the planning for 2025. We’re seeking like-minded partners and sponsors help fund the Expo and thereby fund sustainable, comfortable and connected apartment living in Victoria. 🔗 Get in touch or read more here: https://lnkd.in/eNNuPGyR #Sustainability #HighLife2025 #ApartmentLiving #Retrofitting
After a short break, we're delighted to be back sharing with you insights into creating a more sustainable city. This month we focus on the challenges and opportunities for retro-fitting apartment buildings, informed by the inaugural High Life Expo held in Naarm/Melbourne earlier this year. Two articles by Amy Brand, Culture and Strategy Lead at Let Me Be Frank. highlight the technical and social challenges that need to be overcome and showcase successful case studies and public resources available to those who live in or manage apartment buildings in Australia. What is your favourite way of moving around town? 🚗 / 🚲 / 🚶♀️ / 🚌 ? I believe the best way to move around a city depends on factors like distance, purpose, weather, and infrastructure. Ideally, a city provides safe and sustainable transportation options, allowing individuals to choose what suits their needs best. Additionally, walkable spaces and streets that prioritize quality of life greatly enhance the experience of getting around. What do you think?
With an ever growing urban population, it is key that we design cities with quality public spaces and places to move people in sustainable ways. What is your favourite way of moving around town? 🚗 / 🚲 / 🚶♀️ / 🚌 ? Source: ZICLA & Harald Friedl

Mobility is not utilities, but a business model that lots of stakeholders intervene, lobbying and gain from.. This is how City Managers are stuck between necessities and leverages.. You can't force people from purchasing vehicles for their own, you can't force them to cycle of walk.. or use public transport.. These are benefits from evolving capitalist competitional mindset that requires both individual and collective intelligence to rule..! To sustain the solutions, the model should address both natural emotional human manual..!!

What if we reimagined the role of the pedestrian? 🤔 Urban development depends on people. So does sustainability. So, why haven’t we adjusted our view on people in smart cities? People... > determine pathways > live in our urban spaces > make cities work They are at the heart of urban ecosystems. Imagine a city where every step can mean something. 👞 ⚡ Streets designed with pedestrians in mind. Not as an afterthought. Where it isn't just about moving from point A to B. Kinetic floors are one way to do this. Including people into the infrastructure. And letting them take (and make) the power. We need to rethink, redesign, and rebuild our urban landscapes. --- See how we did this in Oxford Street London 👇

Public spaces can enhance city living dramatically. When utilised correctly public spaces can become escapes from the busy and noisy urban environment. In this week's blog, we've reviewed a few case studies that have enhanced the city experience by creating areas to escape. https://lnkd.in/ePCCUgeb

"As cities continue to grow and evolve, it is essential to prioritize the creation and preservation of public spaces. These spaces are not just amenities; they are essential components of a healthy, vibrant, and inclusive city. By investing in public spaces, cities can create environments where people can thrive, communities can flourish, and the urban experience can be truly enriching for all."
