WHO IS A FIRST RESPONDER AND HOW TO BECOME ONE WHAT DO FIRST RESPONDERS DO? A first responder is an umbrella term for the first medically trained person to arrive on the scene of a medical emergency, accident, or other issue of public safety, such as an earthquake. This title usually includes police officers, firefighters, or EMTs. As a first responder, your primary responsibilities are to quickly and competently assess a situation and determine what other EMTs, police officers, or firefighters need to know when they arrive. You provide initial rescue or first aid care, but unless you are an EMT, you save more advanced medical care for when the ambulance arrives. In other words, a firefighter may provide CPR to an accident victim, but they stop when the more qualified first responder can take over. HOW DO YOU BECOME A FIRST RESPONDER? To become a first responder, pursue a career as a firefighter, police officer, or EMT. Each of these jobs has specific qualifications and training, but first responder certification is part of it. You must take training courses that cover rescue procedures, medical stabilization methods, and other immediate care techniques. Specific skills include CPR and AED operation. Each state’s certification requirements are different, but after coursework, you must complete an exam and then a recertification exam at regular intervals. You can become a certified first responder as a civilian, but this is merely a certification, not a career.

When an emergency strikes, do your employees know how to respond? The difference between life and death often comes down to those first critical moments - and that's why the "ABC" approach to first aid is so important. ABC stands for: ;s 🔸Airways - Keeping the airway clear and open 🔸Breathing - Ensuring adequate breathing and oxygenation 🔸Care - Providing appropriate first-aid treatment These three elements form the foundation of any effective emergency response. Mastering the ABCs is what allows bystanders to stabilize an injured or ill person until advanced medical care arrives. That's why our comprehensive first aid training course places such a heavy emphasis on drilling down into these core principles. In just 3 short hours, your employees will learn: ✅ How to properly clean and maintain an open airway ✅ Techniques for rescue breathing and CPR ✅ Hands-on practice treating bleeding, burns, fractures, and more ✅ Real-world scenarios to build confidence and quick-thinking skills With the ABCs under their belt, your team will be prepared to act decisively and save lives. Originally designed for Close Protection Operatives and those working in similar fields, the First Person on Scene course has become popular as an alternative to the traditional workplace first aid courses. The 4 day course is highly practical, focusing on building a confident approach to casualty management through scenario work involving casualty simulation. The course covers: ✅️ Emergency care of casualties for the first responder ✅️ Recognising and managing trauma for the first responder ✅️ Recognising and managing medical conditions for the first responder The Level 3 Award for the First Person on Scene exceeds the requirements of first aid in the workplace and has been acknowledged as a First Aid equivalent. https://lnkd.in/efqtUAtD Have your employees trained at a higher level of first aid, ensure your Teams meet the expectations that you expect. First aid at work is so much more than remembering how many breathes to compressions you should be doing! You are training for a situation that you hope will never happen. It is more comfortable to adopt the "It wont happen to us" mentality. Then it does! These are the most challenging situations of all because they are not practiced or trained for, they do not form part of your daily situation. This means that the level of confusion and panic when it does happen is even greater. Any emergency first course must provide guidance and training to the delegates on how best to react to and cope with a high pressure situation. In a serious incident the Golden Hour conversation is irrelevant, you have minutes to save a life. How would you react if you came around the corner and saw a colleague with a major injury or in the throws of heart attack? I almost guarantee you would go into full flight or fight mode. You would be scrabbling to remember any training you had done. If you had attended class room training you would have little or no muscle memory. Whilst this is happening time and life are slipping away. First aid training must integrate with incident management and follow up casualty care. The designated first aiders should receive training in how to cope the pressure and anxiety of a situation as well as how to keep a casualty safe and alive until professional help arrives. Have you had to deal with a real life emergency? How did you respond? If you'd like to know how we can help message us below. #firstaid #firstaidatwork #responder #training #emergency

1Tell me about your self I'm Justine G. Villanueva 19years of age BPE student from st John Paul ll College of davao.I am a volunteer 3 ago I have a club that is pavor and I also joined scouting during my high school days and I want to be part of redcross because I would like to help. 2. Why do you want to be a first aider? I want to be a first aider because I believe that having the ability to provide immediate care in emergency situations is crucial. I am passionate about helping others, and being trained in first aid allows me to make a tangible difference in critical moments. I find it rewarding to know that I can contribute to the safety and well-being of those around me." 3. Can you describe the primary responsibilities of a first aider? The primary responsibilities of a first aider include assessing the situation to ensure it is safe to approach, administering appropriate first aid to the injured or ill person, and seeking professional medical help if necessary. This also involves staying calm, reassuring the casualty, and keeping detailed records of the incident and the care provided. 4.How do you stay calm under pressure? Staying calm under pressure is essential for a first aider. I focus on deep breathing and keeping a clear head by prioritizing tasks and following established procedures. Training and practice also help; the more familiar I am with first aid techniques, the more confident and composed I feel in real situations. 5.What would you do if you arrived at an accident scene and found multiple casualties? In a situation with multiple casualties, I would first ensure the scene is safe. Then, I would quickly assess each casualty to determine the severity of their injuries, prioritizing those who need immediate attention. I would use the principles of triage to manage my time and resources effectively and call for additional help if necessary. 6. Can you walk us through the steps you would take to perform CPR? First, I would check for responsiveness and breathing. If the person is unresponsive and not breathing normally, I would call for emergency services immediately. Then, I would begin chest compressions by placing the heel of my hand on the center of the person's chest and pushing hard and fast at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. After 30 compressions, I would give two rescue breaths if I am trained to do so and have a barrier device available. I would continue this cycle until emergency services arrive or the person starts to show signs of life.

Because critically unwell or injured patients can be in remote locations which is why vital basic first aid skills can make all the difference. The dynamics completely change, compared to a classroom or lounge floor! So important to be suitably equipped and trained. Not only in first aid, but leadership, communications, decision making and thinking outside the box. Life is unpredictable. #askjig #beprepared #learn
