Warrior to Love: Show-Up I recently had an inspiring meeting with Councilman Michael Boylan from Jacksonville City Council District 6. It reminded me of the power of community engagement and the importance of taking action to drive change. Years ago, I considered a political career, but my wife and I decided it wasn't the right path for us. Instead, I focused on connecting with our local representatives, believing that true change starts with us. During our conversation, we discussed the book "A Quiet Revolution," which explores the history of Jacksonville's consolidation. Jacksonville Historical Society Both Councilman Boylan and I share a passion for history and a vision for progress in our city. We reflected on the challenges and the numerous failed attempts to unite and advance Jacksonville over the years. One of the biggest questions remains: how do you unite a community divided in the largest city by land mass in the USA? While I am still working on the answer, I know that getting involved and building relationships is a significant step forward. As a private citizen, I've had the privilege of connecting with some of the best professionals and actively participating in our community. My passion lies in solving problems and fostering resilience in relationships. Nothing happens unless you make it happen. It takes everyone to participate in creating and sustaining livable communities. Everything starts with you! It drives me B 🍌 A 🍌N 🍌 A🍌 N🍌A 🍌S when leadership can be EASY and it's CHOSEN to not be ---------- Example: The Friday Morning Swim Club vs The City of Chicago -------- Long Story Short: One Friday a guy went swimming in Lake Michigan And every Friday after that, for the duration of the summer And slowly people started to join Eventually, it grew a MASSIVE following People were coming in droves to downtown Chicago's lakefront To jump in the frigid cold lake in the middle of the summer Every Friday morning For THREE years It became so big that it hit national news It drew in a global audience Hundreds of people attended! And then... This summer The City of Chicago said NO 🛑 ---------- The City cited that it was too big of an event The group needed to pay for $108,000 in permits There weren't any lifeguards They were on a Lollapalooza level of scale The group organizing the Swim Club went to the City with reasonable solutions and realistic ideas for solving the issues Only to be told NO 🛑 ---------- The City has a bad reputation for >>>violence >>>carjackings >>>smash and grabs I have friends and family who live in the suburbs and refuse to go to the City Here, we have a group of really amazing humans who >>>have built a community >>>changed the *scary* narrative of downtown >>>made Chicago a place people WANT to visit And the opportunity for Chicago's leadership to take advantage of that >>>To create a partnership >>>Do something unexpected and amazing >>>To LEAD and show off how Chicago is the BEST city EVER >>>To prove that there is still faith in bureaucratic/political/municipal leadership It was missed They failed ---------- Here's the moral of the story: Look for the opportunities you can CHOOSE to >>>Be reasonable >>>Strive for a win win >>>Create a sense of community >>>Lead in the gray These Leaders win because they've won the people who follow them #Leadership #Chicago

This economic development needs to continue! One way to make that happen is meeting our lower income housing needs! Union crossing is a step in the right direction to meet those needs. Continue to promote growth means you continue to promote opportunities for everybody. More jobs, more tax flow (not higher taxes), better schools, more opportunities for parks, more attraction for more businesses.. it’s a growth cycle! #unioncrossing #northsiouxcity #dakotadunes #growth #econimcdevelopment
