"Job alert! 🚨 Just spotted a listing for a junior advocate position. Requirements: 2 years of experience. Compensation: 5k stipend. Wait, what? 🧐 Is this some kind of legal joke I'm too inexperienced to understand? Are we supposed to pay our bills with case files and court orders? As a law student, I'm now wondering if I should've chosen a more lucrative career... like professional bubble wrap popper or professional line stander. 🤔 Seriously though, is this what awaits us after years of studying, countless sleepless nights, and a mountain of textbooks? Is our worth as junior advocates truly measured in pocket change? I'm not saying I expected to be swimming in money right out of law school, but I at least hoped to afford more than just ramen noodles and dreams. To all my fellow law students out there: maybe it's time we consider opening a lemonade stand instead? At least there we might have a shot at making some real "juice-tice"! 🍋⚖️ #LegallyBroke #AdvocateLife #WhoNeedsMoneyAnyway" #lawstudent #freekemajdur #law #exploitation #legalfraternity

This is a really big deal. At least in the legal industry, and ultimately well beyond, this is a big deal. As of today, the largest database of judicial clerkship assessment yet compiled -- with the broadest and deepest set of topics addressed in that assessment -- is now live for law students who have subscribed for access. This means more students will be able to make a much more informed decision about where to apply for and where to accept clerkships, and more students may feel comfortable to pursue a clerkship at all. Law schools, take note: to best serve your primary constituents (yes, law students!), to evidence that you truly care about access to critical information and access to the leadership pipeline that a clerkship provides, and to best protect your students in their professional pathways, you need to subscribe to the Clerkships Database on behalf of those constituents. Former judicial law clerks, take note: to best support your peers and those coming up behind you, fill out the Clerkships Survey and get your information into this repository for the broader benefit of the legal industry. Hearty congrats to Aliza Shatzman for achieving this important milestone and cheers to the whole supporting cast of The Legal Accountability Project for bringing us to this stage. Lots more to follow!

WE’RE LIVE! The moment is finally here! On Sunday at noon, The Legal Accountability Project upended the #clerkship system, launching our Centralized Clerkships Database, a first-of-its-kind #transparency initiative to democratize judicial #clerkship information, for the first cohort of users. How did students obtain candid information about chambers culture, judges’ managerial styles, and a diversity of #clerkship experiences? They didn’t. Until now. Are you applying for #clerkships? Do you know someone who is? Clerkship applicants can now log into LAP’s Clerkships Database, an unprecedented step to ensure #transparency, #equity, and #accountability in judicial #clerkships - for the information they need to be informed, discerning, and empowered consumers of #clerkship opportunities. LAP couldn’t have achieved this incredible milestone without support from our incredible Board of Directors - Judge Douglas R. M. Nazarian (he/him/his), Karyn Polak, Peter Romer-Friedman, Nicholas Fromherz, and Edward "Coach" Weinhaus, Esq. - who advise and support the Project (and me) in big ways and in small ones every single day. I am grateful for their friendship and unwavering support, and I'm proud of what we've built together. LAP looks forward to supporting many of you on your #clerkship journeys! #clerking #courts #judiciary #accountability #transparency #diversityequityinclusion #legaltech

I am back from the College for New Court Professionals conference in the great city of Pflugerville, TX! It was three days of education, enlightening discussion groups and even tips for varied roles in the courts.🤓 I met many people from so many counties across the state of Texas, from paralegals to other court coordinators to court admin personnel to judges! Each day filled with Ethics & Professionalism in the court, Inventories and backlogs, Case management, Criminal/Mental Health/Civil procedures, Dealing with Difficult People and Difficult Situations, court appointments, fee reporting and how to help, handle self-represented individuals. All the speakers were seasoned and articulate, each with their own experiences/spin on their subject. Though I was the Lead Clerk in the misdemeanor courts from 2006-2017, I worked from the court clerk perspective. I knew what the court clerk/coordinator did, respectively, but only as a protective mechanism that the clerks were not doing the work of the coordinator and/or vice versa. Now I’m back with more knowledge and more importantly, UNDERSTANDING of not just what my role as court coordinator is, but WHY these duties must be done/not done. Not only was this also my first out of town conference, but I attended it alone! Not one to gatekeep, here are some tips for the future first time out of town conventioneers(?): •Do not fall for the false sense of security of ‘I can sleep in a little later because I am literally just upstairs.’⏰ •You do NOT need a different pair of shoes for each day you are attending.👠👞 •If your new group of buddies invites you to go exploring dinner options, GO!🍽 #bexarcountypc1 #promotion #court #learninganddevelopment #grateful #mentalhealth #probate #continuouslearning #newbeginnings

“Did you clerk?” No, but seriously. My hooman friends at The Legal Accountability Project know that *hundreds* of judicial law clerks are finishing up their #clerkships in federal and state #courts nationwide this summer. We want YOU to share your #clerkship experience with LAP - and with thousands of prospective clerks! 🐾Ever wished there was a Centralized Clerkships Database where you could access candid information about hundreds of federal and state court judges’ chambers culture and managerial styles, beyond the networks your #lawschool has access to? 🐾Ever thought it would be easier to spend 15 minutes writing about your #clerkship experience, rather than fielding outreach throughout the spring and summer from prospective clerks? 🐾Ever considered that it was a little (or very) #inequitable that a handful of well-resourced schools hoarded the majority of #clerkship info, and selectively shared it with students? 🗣️LAP has solved these problems! By democratizing judicial #clerkship information, we ensure that more applicants have the info they need before applying. And we built an anonymous, verified platform for clerks who have never shared - or candidly shared - their experience. 🔊 🔊LAP’s goal is to collect *500* surveys from clerks completing their #clerkships this summer, so our information is as broad and robust as possible heading into the fall. 📣Help us reach our goal! Visit: https://lnkd.in/eG-Pbk5d to share your clerkship experience today! #clerkships #courts #transparency #diversityequityinclusionbelonging

I have long believed that those of us who work as in-house civil local government attorneys have the very best legal gigs around. Generally, lawyers who work in our sector enjoy what they do immensely, like their clients (most of the time), experience atypical longevity in the job, and have better work/life balance (whatever that is these days) than lawyers in virtually any other sector. I am convinced that we're the best kept secret in the practice of law. Which is why I seize every opportunity to let folks know we're out here, and that there are opportunities to explore . . . Like, THIS amazing opportunity--the City of Concord, NC is hiring for a new Assistant City Attorney. I can vouch personally for the AWESOMENESS of the City Attorney to whom the successful candidate would report. City Attorney VaLerie Kolczynski has served as the chief legal officer for Concord for nearly a decade and has worked in that office since 2006. She's the incoming President for the North Carolina Association of Municipal Attorneys and is highly regarded by her peers from around the state as an expert in municipal law (and just a fabulous human). As for the organization--Concord, NC is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state, with a population that nearly doubled between 2000 and 2022. There is A LOT going on in that City and a lot of interesting and challenging local government law to be practiced. This is an opportunity that shouldn't be missed by those interested in municipal law! The University of Georgia School of Law announced two initiatives to address the shortage of attorneys—namely prosecutors and public defenders—in the rural areas of Georgia, which one expert said will help aid a public legal service field in desperate need of new attorneys. The Georgia Honors Fellows Program will provide stipends for up to 10 students working in public defenders or prosecutors’ offices, with the option to continue their service after one term through private funding. The program will also financially support several university graduates in full-time positions, while paying for bar exam preparation costs for each participant and contributing $10,000 annually to reduce the graduates’ debt each year, the law school announced earlier this month. The school is also guaranteeing one-quarter scholarships for every admitted first-generation college graduate and veteran in their legal studies. . . . #lawschoolgrad #jobsearch #lawschool #barexam #jobboard #jobposting #hardskills #softskills #legalcareer #careergrowth #lawstudent #hiring #resumewriting #lawfirms #atlantalawyer #legalrecruiting #AtlantaLegalRecruiters #theRMNagency #legalrecruitingfirm #legalrecruiter #legalrecruiters #legalsearch #atlantalegalrecruiters #atlantalawfirms #biglaw #smalllawfirm #inhousecounsel #associate #partner
