In one of my library management classes, we discussed common crises faced in libraries, with harassment being a recurring theme. Sadly, several incidents involved male perpetrators, and some female workers shared their concerns about continuing in the profession. While libraries typically have policies to address harassment, there seems to be hesitancy in enforcing them, especially given that libraries are federally funded and meant to serve the public. Other students mentioned measures like asking individuals to leave, banning them, or hiring security, but I cannot help but wonder if more can be done in prevention. How can we shift the narrative and inform these patrons that libraries are a privilege, and the workers who serve the community deserve basic human respect? It is a common issue for any customer service position these days, but it is still a conversation worth having as we strive for safer and more inclusive environments for all workers.

My heart aches for the two 14-year-old students and two teachers who lost their lives in the tragic mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. The nine others who were wounded, including eight students and one teacher, are now fighting to recover. The question echoes in my mind: Why is there so much evil among us, leading children to steal assault weapons and commit such heinous acts of violence? We must urgently look within ourselves, our families, and our communities to unearth the root causes of this devastating trend in America. Two years ago, I immersed myself in the exploration of technology solutions for school safety.
