Great interview - Chloe is one of our many inspirational Social Workers / Leaders in #Somerset working to boost understanding of the profession, representing the real and positive impact of Social Work - Let's #ChangeTheScript
Last month Chloe Deverell, Somersets Child Exploitation Team Manager, was on BBC Radio Somerset talking about the value and importance of social work. The interview took place as part of the 'Change the Script' campaign - a Social Work England campaign advocating for more positive portrayals of social work in the media. Each year, social workers help millions of people to improve their chances in life. This is the story that the ‘Change the Script’ campaign wants to tell. Chloe did a fantastic job highlighting the work she does, the support she receives in Somerset, and how social workers support families in so many ways to build on their strengths. Local engagement boosts recruitment! 🏡✨ Getting involved with your local community isn't just about giving back—it's an excellent way to attract local talent. 🐕👩⚕️ With the right approach, businesses can build strong relationships that naturally lead to a pipeline of dedicated and passionate employees. At Vetted Recruitment, we've seen first-hand how community engagement can elevate recruitment efforts. By participating in and organising local events, we don't just create goodwill; we position ourselves as a staple in the local veterinary scene. This, in turn, makes us a go-to choice for local vets and nurses looking for their next opportunity. From CV workshops to collaboration with local vet schools, our involvement helps potential candidates see us as a trusted partner in their career journeys. When candidates know you care about their community, they are more likely to care about you. By showing genuine interest and support for local causes, businesses can resonate more deeply with potential hires. As a recruiter based in Hertfordshire, I recognise the importance of building positive relationships with children in residential care right from the start. 🌟 Starting a new role in this field can be both rewarding and challenging. Here are some techniques for new staff members to establish meaningful connections with these young individuals: 1. **Active Listening**: Take the time to listen attentively to what the children have to say. Show genuine interest in their thoughts and feelings. 2. **Empathy**: Put yourself in their shoes to better understand their experiences and emotions. Empathy goes a long way in building trust. 3. **Consistency**: Be consistent in your interactions and follow through on any promises made. This helps create a sense of security and reliability. 4. **Positive Reinforcement**: Acknowledge and praise their achievements, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement boosts self-esteem and encourages positive behaviour. 5. **Respect**: Treat the children with respect and dignity. Respect their boundaries and opinions to foster a sense of autonomy. Starting off on the right foot with these techniques not only benefits the children but also enriches your own experience in this rewarding field. 💼🌟 #BuildingRelationships #ResidentialCare #PositiveImpact

Spring is in the Air: A time of growth and change I love Spring! Nature shows us that it’s the perfect time to really tune in to our surroundings and grow. For The Arc, Spring brings with it fresh energy and focus on serving people in our community. In our work, we are always reviewing and assessing how we support people to live the lives they choose. Are we being responsive to the needs of our community while still looking to the future? Are we staffed in order to achieve all we can, given our resources? These questions often lead us to make adjustments, and this year, we have some exciting changes to share! · Individual Advocacy, the personalized guidance and support we provide, is expanding with a new focus! In addition to supporting children and their families and adults, we now have dedicated positions to support teens and young adults as they navigate the rough waters of those years. · Consulting Advocacy (or Peer Advocacy) is our next adventure! We have contracted with a consultant to work with us to research and develop a program which would utilize the skills of people with IDD who have lived experience to support others who are dealing with similar situations. Watch for a survey in the next few weeks about this work. · Community Engagement is ramping up! We expect to be moving out into our community more often, telling stories of impact and supporting people in our broader community to learn more about the lives and abilities of people with IDD. Now Hiring As things evolve at The Arc, we are announcing two open positions. Click on the title for more information about the position and qualifications. · Director of Adult Advocacy https://lnkd.in/eUppYfsy · Marketing & Communications Specialist https://lnkd.in/e8hwdPs6

Hey! If you want your employees to be advocates for your employer brand, you need to do a few things first: ・Start with genuine passion and personal interest. Find the people in your organization who are already engaging in advocacy activities, recognize them and get them trained up! ・Bring allyship into the conversation. Signal boost each others content and don't be afraid to shy away from subject matter that approaches things like disrupting bias and speaking up when it's challenging. ・Make advocacy an accepted practice by making it safe to speak up. If you're interested in learning more about how to empower employee advocacy at your organization, come to Conversations with Impact: Building Communities of Employee Advocates on June 7th. https://lnkd.in/gix-tMnJ
