It can also be a great way to mobilize some support when it comes to communicating with our legislators. The more our citizens understand the issues and limitations that we deal with at the county level, the more they can help advocate for us and the local issues.

Washington, D.C., was chosen as the capital of the United States as a compromise between conflicting interests—a recurring theme in the nation's founding and governing structure. Washington continues to serve as the seat of the federal government and has become a hub for professionals looking to shape and implement policies. Among varied interests and centuries of historical context, it can be hard for those new to Washington to navigate its complex political structures.    The Decoding D.C.: Policy, Power, and People executive course connects those seeking a deeper read on the Capitol’s centers of influence with accomplished D.C. professionals for a crash course in how things are done in Washington. From an exploration of the role of the media to exclusive conversations with former politicians and political appointees, the course covers the policy process from advocacy to implementation.    Decoding D.C.: Policy, Power, and People will take place at CSIS and virtually from March 24 – 27, 2025. On May 29, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) opened public feedback on important changes to improve access to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline – and it’s critical they hear from advocates like you!   The proposed rule will improve how wireless calls are routed to the 988 Lifeline, connecting people quickly and safely to the nearest call center based on their geographic location, while protecting user privacy.   The deadline is June 28, but we urge you to act today. How to make a submission for the FCC Public Comments: 1. Go to the submission page by going to https://lnkd.in/gqapE4M 1. For "Proceeding(s)" input: 18-336 2. For "Name of Filer" input your name 3. Continue to input all required information 2. Enter your comments in the “Brief Comments” box.
