We welcome the publication of the Future of Flight Action Plan by the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom and the Future of Flight Industry Group this week, with its vision of a thriving, safe and sustainable UK future flight industry by 2030. The plan recognizes standardization as a key building block, including to support industry-wide interoperability and harmonization. BSI is addressing this need, in collaboration with the UK Government and the Civil Aviation Authority, through the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funded Future Flight Standards Programme. We look forward to continuing working closely with industry as market requirements evolve and as we develop a standards roadmap to enable the strategy. As Future Flight moves beyond demonstrations and proof of concepts, there is an increasing focus on standards and how they support scaling of the sector. I would like to thank DfT and the Future Flight Industry Action Group for the opportunity to contribute to the Action Plan and highlight the important role that standards will play. At the recent Connected Places Summit, I have had some great conversations about how standards can be used to accelerate innovation. One way we can do this is by collaborating with the CAA to parallel track development of standards that can be used as means of compliance alongside the development of new regulation. We are doing exactly this with the new standard we are developing as means of compliance for SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment). #drones #uas #aviation #airmobility #standards
