Day 2: Spotlight on Apprentices On day 2 of National Apprenticeship Week, we spotlight the vital role of apprenticeships in commercial construction. These programs are crucial for providing hands-on experience, fostering mentorship, and driving innovation in the industry. As one of our experienced forepersons, Kyle, can attest, our apprenticeship program equips the next generation of construction leaders with practical skills and industry knowledge, setting them up for successful careers in commercial construction. "My journey with CK began five years ago. Through their four-year program, I progressed from a construction novice to my current role as a Footer and Wall Foreperson. The program equipped me with a wide range of skills, from basic tool handling to advanced surveying. Now, I'm managing my first project and mentoring an apprentice. It's rewarding to see my growth and pass on knowledge to the next generation.CK's program offers diverse experiences in construction. My advice: Embrace learning, set clear goals, and take advantage of CK's comprehensive approach. You'll gain broad experience to shape a career that matches your aspirations." #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #CommercialConstruction #HandsOnExperience #Mentorship #NextGenLeaders #ConstructionCareers #SkillsDevelopment #CKConstruction #CareerGrowth #EmbraceLeaming #BuildingFutures

Apprenticeships offer a pathway for those seeking family-wage jobs and enjoy working with their minds and hands! The degree you seek is journeyman licensing. Different crafts have different lengths and requirements that will test you in a good way. In the utility industry this could be electricians, plumbers, carpenters, mechanics, substation operators, telecom craftsmen, data system craftsmen, etc. The opportunity to work alongside typically engineering and leadership to operate, maintain, upgrade, and build new critical transmission and power infrastructure is incredibly rewarding personally as well as professionally. To be clear this is a profession like engineering and leadership and the foundation that makes them successful.
As National Apprenticeship Week comes to a close, it's a great time to reflect on the progress we've made at Grant PUD. Since we first began our apprenticeship journey in 1959, starting with just three programs, we have expanded to nine, with two new ones launched in the past two years. Among these, our Fiber Network Technician program is especially noteworthy, as it’s the first registered apprenticeship program of its kind in the state. Just earlier this week, the first apprentice in this program was approved for program completion and is set to test in the coming days. As our industry continues to evolve and embrace new technologies, we remain committed to creating opportunities that help shape a skilled workforce capable of building and maintaining the critical infrastructure we rely on. Apprenticeships provide a clear pathway to rewarding careers, with competitive earnings and a sense of purpose for individuals eager to work in the trades. Let's take a moment to recognize the hard work and dedication of our current apprentices, journeymen, committees, leadership, and all the organizations that prioritize and support these programs. Together, we're not just building careers—we're building the future of our community. #GrantPUD #Apprenticeships #Heritage #Growourown

A webinar about Construction Apprenticeships that brought a tear to my eye 🥲 Are you sure!! 👇 Get the link to the recording and listen to Christabel A. to find out why. To be honest, I knew our guest apprentice would be knowledgable, relatable and inspiring......I just wasn't expecting 'moving' and 'emotional'......but she certainly was all of those things.....and then some. Christabel shared her very real pride in being involved on a project at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust that she described as 'an amazing building' and one that will change people's lives, as they will no longer need to travel across the country to get treatment. Her pride at making a difference to people's lives with a construction project that she was working on was tangible. Christabel shared her journey to becoming an Apprentice Site Manager with Morgan Sindall Construction, the challenges that the job role brings and the skills she has developed. Norma Odain-Hines MInstLM social values manager at Morgan Sindall Construction, also joined the webinar to share information on the various Apprenticeships and opportunities available at the company, and also in the wider group. Towards the beginning of the webinar we looked at routes into 'Trade Apprenticeships' and checked out some useful websites. Click the link to check out the recording and the resources we shared. Huge thanks to Norma and Christabel......and also to South East Midlands Careers Hub for supporting the webinar. #constructionapprenticeships #construction #apprenticeships #youngpeople

Apprenticeships pave futures. 🛠️ In construction, they are the cornerstone of mastery. Apprenticeships meld theoretical knowledge with hands-on training, ensuring tomorrow's builders aren't just book-smart but site-ready. It's this blend that crafts highly skilled professionals who propel the industry forward.👌 Take the UK's skills gap. A pressing issue, yet apprenticeships present a concrete solution. They're the tool belt equipping young talent with the expertise to not only fill roles but excel in them. Each apprentice becomes part of the foundation supporting our infrastructure's growth and innovation. 🌉 It's not just about filling vacancies. It's about nurturing a workforce that values safety, quality, and sustainability. Apprentices learn these from the ground up, creating a workspace where well-built means built to last. 🔨 Having just started my apprenticeship at MTR myself, I hope to be speaking to some of you that are working your way up the construction ladder soon! 📝 #ConstructionCareers #Apprenticeships #BuildingTheFuture

The Construction Industry Council of Westchester & Hudson Valley and our members celebrate National Apprentice Week. Apprenticeships are an effective way to gain hands-on skills and experience in a trade or profession. Some industries require that you complete them, and many companies use apprenticeship programs to train new employees and prepare them for a career. Learning more about these entry-level career programs can help you find the one that best meets your career goals. An apprenticeship program prepares recent graduates for trade or professional jobs while meeting a company's need for highly skilled employees. It often combines practical, hands-on training with paid work, meaning you can receive a wage while working in the program. As an apprentice, you might be a new hire or a current employee who wants to advance in your career by gaining new skills. Apprenticeships encompass a wide variety of career paths and industries. While they continue to be an effective training strategy in industries such as manufacturing and construction, they're also available in sectors like information technology, health care, energy, transportation and logistics. The key skill you learn during your apprenticeship is likely one you can't learn on your own without watching and learning from someone else.
