A skilled team can take any camera and turn your brief into something remarkable through creative direction, lighting, and other skills. While cinema cameras can be useful in some cases, they are not the be-all and end-all. Don't be swayed by equipment alone - focus on finding a partner with the right experience and creative solutions. Remember, knowledge beats equipment every time.

IDENTITY SHORT FILM - SHOT ON BMCC 6K Hello everyone, I’m proud to share you my last short film that I shot in England with the dancer Weronika Johnson 💃 This project was for me the perfect opportunity to test the BMCC 6k full frame that Blackmagic Design Europe sent in a collaboration framework I have with them 🎥 As cinematographer there would be a lot of things to say about the BMCC 6K but I wouldn't be too long here about the technical aspect of this camera, so here are three things I really like about it : 1 - Its ability to shoot in 6k open 3:2 and in S35 4:3 that is so useful when it comes to shoot with anamorphic lenses. 2 - The way footage look straight out of the camera thanks to the dynamic range, the Blackmagic's colorscience and the OLPF filter they added to the new 6k full frame sensor (as BMPCC 4K/6k Pro user, this new filter makes the difference). 3 - L-mount, that allows us (cinematographers) to either use it natively or to use it with a wide variety of other lens mounts. There would be also one or two downsides or things I would have love to have on this camera like internal NDs (as a previous BMPCC 6K Pro user when you are used to it, it's hard to get back on a camera that hasn't this very useful feature) or the form factor (now "corrected" with their Pyxis camera 🔥). Unveiling the Secrets of Sensor Technology: Exposing the Truth Behind Cinematography's Dynamic Range Illusions After extensive research and analysis in the field of sensor technology, I have come to a profound realization. Through thorough examination of various reference materials and YouTube videos on the subject, it became apparent that there was a lack of scientific and knowledgeable explanation available. Embarking on a journey to shed light on this matter, I had the privilege of conducting interviews with sensor designers in the Arri Industry. The insights gained from these interactions have been invaluable. Although I am unable to disclose the identity of the individual who guided me, I am thrilled to share the valuable references provided. The fundamental question that sparked this exploration was: Why is it essential for cinematographers to understand the intricacies of sensors? As someone dedicated to achieving optimal results with digital sensors, I found that the performance often fell short of expectations, despite the lofty claims made by camera companies in their advertisements. For instance, the Arri 35 boasts an impressive 17-stop dynamic range. However, upon closer inspection, it became evident that these figures were somewhat misleading. In an upcoming article series, I will delve into the mechanisms behind these exaggerated claims and explore the nuances of dynamic range manipulation. This video showcases footage captured using a vintage Soviet lens from 1985, the Helios-40-2 85mm f1.5. The recording took place on a full-frame 35mm cinema camera, specifically the Z CAM E2-F6, in 4K H.265 Z-log2 format. The initial footage was then transformed to Rec709 using the Zlogcolor plug-in within Davinci Resolve. Basic color correction was applied, adjusting exposure levels (from 60 IRE to a well-lit skin tone, or 40 IRE to a skin tone in the shadows) and ensuring color balance. Following the basic corrections, the footage underwent color grading using the Dehancer plugin. The chosen film profile was Kodak Vision3 50D, paired with the print profile Kodak 2383.
