👏 The establishment of the European Health Union marks a significant milestone in the collective health policy of the EU. It embodies a unified response to health crises, ensuring that medical supplies are accessible, affordable, and innovative. This initiative is a testament to the EU’s commitment to safeguarding public health and improving the resilience of health systems. By fostering collaboration among member states, the European Health Union aims to enhance prevention, treatment, and aftercare for diseases, with a comprehensive approach that includes a strong focus on mental health and the creation of the European Health Data Space. This forward-thinking strategy underscores the importance of health as a priority and reflects the lessons learned from past health challenges, positioning the EU to better address future pandemics and health threats. 🌍💙 #HealthUnion #StrongerTogether #EUHealth💙 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gxyrE9R3

Today’s last meeting of the Subcommittee of Public Health (SANT) marked a significant milestone, with me serving as the Vice-Coordinator representing EPP. Establishing this Committee was pivotal not only for our Parliament but for the entirety of the EU. The Covid-19 pandemic showed us that health should always be a priority on our agenda, and thus we are in need of robust and inclusive health policies that will transform our health systems. While SANT subcommittee comes to its end, more legislative work remains ahead for the next mandate, with a commitment to make SANT a standing Committee with legislative power. Among the top priorities, I strongly advocate for the adoption of a European Action Plan on Rare Diseases. As someone deeply involved in healthcare both politically and personally, I understand the complexities of addressing health inequalities among Member States, especially when concerning rare diseases. Common guidelines are crucial to harmonize best practices and mitigate disparities, particularly in ensuring early diagnosis and access to treatment for rare disease patients and their families. EPP's commitment to prioritizing health is unwavering. Moving forward, our aim is to establish a true European Health Union, equipped to handle cross-border threats, boost health system resilience, upskilling and reskilling healthcare professionals, ensure medicine accessibility, and diversify supply chains. Our ultimate goal is to make quality healthcare accessible to every EU citizen. #EUHealthUnion #RareDiseases #Patients #EPP #SANTsubcommittee #PublicHealth #eUkympouropoulos #EPP

The PHC primer (https://lnkd.in/gidGN8h9) published jointly by WHO HQ and Europe office will greatly assist the UNICEF-WHO SDG3 / PHC acceleration efforts in countries. Following the joint UNICEF-WHO Astana declaration 2018, UNICEF and WHO jointly authored and published the PHC Operational framework and the PHC measurement framework and indicators, this primer published jointly by the WHO HQrs & Europe offices with inputs from UNICEF in many chapters is a great addition to the tools and that National health managers will have to strengthen #PHC for #UHC and #SDG3 and avert future breakdowns in service during outbreaks, epidemics and avert pandemics. ⚕️A good state of health is by far the best fuel for people’s well-being worldwide.🗺️ 🔍Taking a critical look at the countries around, we can rightly say the European Health Union needed a long-term vision for public health as a lesson from the pandemic. In this regard, at the beginning of this year, the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME), along with their partnership and devotion, urged policymakers for equitable access to healthcare for patients. Swipe left to see their ambitions ➡️ Despite ambitions for a strong European Health Union, health remains a low priority in the EU Strategic Agenda. EPHA Concurs with Council Diagnosis on the EU Health Union These Conclusions align closely with EPHA's own assessment of the need for a stronger EU Health Union to advance evidence-driven public health policies that prioritise prevention, equity, and sustainability. "Health Ministers share our diagnosis on the future of the European Health Union" stated Milka Sokolovic, Director General of EPHA. "Whilst the EU Health Union has been questioned by some, the lessons from the pandemic are clear - we really need the EU to support greater action on health. They have joined us not just in recognising the priority health should continue to have in EU policy making, but also in identifying some of the same health priorities requiring attention" she added. To truly achieve health equity, the European Health Union must urgently adopt a cross-sectoral approach, integrating Health in. https://lnkd.in/ex3UPXcd #PublicHealth #Europe #StayInformed #StayEmpowered
