Learning to distinguish between different types of wood flooring is an essential property adjusting step that takes practice. Did you pass our identification quiz? When it comes to most contemporary designs, the materials look & feel very similar but the sticker price varies widely! A misidentification could mean 💰 in under or overpayments on a claim. If the flooring is still intact during your inspection, ask the policyholder if they have a remnant you could look at - they may even still have the box with the manufacturer’s information listed on it. TIP: Spend time in the flooring aisles of a home improvement store to see the differences in person! Compare the quality, look, & feel of the different varieties. Take some samples home to build your own field materials kit too 🛠 CATI has training opportunities that will help you expand your knowledge! Hands-on instruction in our mockup facilities in Dallas offer intensive practice in building components & repair processes. Check out the “CATI Certified Adjuster – Residential Essentials” course or the “Field Adjuster Kickstart” training. If you can’t join us in person, CATI’s online “Essentials of Construction and Materials Identification” course is a great option for building a solid foundation in flooring as well as other building components commonly affected in property losses such as roofing, drywall & finished carpentry. It's hard to believe it's already been a year since I completed the Secrets of Scaffold Design course at 48.3 Scaffold Design . This advanced program gave me invaluable insight into why designers put so much scaffold in their designs and why they use different ties on the same structure. I feel this knowledge is essential for anyone who wants to keep developing as an advanced scaffolding. As we all know every scaffolder is the best scaffolder and every scaffolder knows best. I’m passionate about training and am on a mission to raise the standard of scaffolding training here in Jersey for our team. The key to success is continuous learning—whether it’s picking up new skills, boosting confidence, or learning to approach challenges from new angles. Scaffolding has evolved rapidly, especially in the last decade, and it’s crucial we keep pace with these changes. That’s why I’m committed to ongoing education—not just for myself, but for the entire team. The more we learn, the stronger we become as a company. Let’s keep pushing forward! #Scaffolding #ContinuousLearning #TrainingForExcellence

Merlin Industries, Inc. had their first PVC Membrane Training course yesterday. What are Installers Are Saying About Reinforced PVC Membrane? "This construction system is the perfect combination of strength and waterproofing, I think it's the next big thing that is going to take over the industry; it makes so much sense." "This reinforced PVC is not only watertight but also aesthetically pleasing and durable, as we did not want the consumer to frequently change out the liner, repair, replaster, or repaint the pool regularly." "This reinforced PVC interior finish is truly the best option for our new Pool but is also ideal for renovating pools as well. It's fast to install, eliminates the headaches associated with scheduling around weather conditions, holds up to freeze-thaw conditions and can be left without water for long periods of time."

The Stillson Wrench "Wrenches play a crucial role in plumbing and mechanical work," according to the Finder website. "Among these essential tools, the Stillson wrench stands out as a significant innovation. Daniel C. Stillson, a mechanic at the Walworth Company, invented the Stillson wrench [that was patented on December 5, 1876].. This tool revolutionized pipe wrenches with its adjustable jaws and durable design. The Stillson wrench, made from special high-grade tool steel, offers strength, durability, and resistance to wear and tear. This versatile tool finds use in plumbing, construction, and various other industries "Stillson’s experience with steamboats highlighted the need for a more efficient tool to handle pipes. Traditional wrenches often slipped or failed to grip pipes securely. This inefficiency inspired Stillson to create a tool that could provide a firm grip on pipes of various sizes. His goal was to design a wrench that combined accuracy and flexibility, allowing for easier and more reliable pipe work. "In 1869, Daniel Stillson developed the first prototype [in wood] of what would become known as the Stillson wrench. This innovative tool featured an adjustable jaw mechanism, which allowed users to modify the jaw opening to fit different pipe sizes. The wrench’s design included hardened serrated teeth on its jaws, ensuring a strong grip on pipes. The swiveling jaw enabled the wrench to grip and release pipes by pushing the handle in different directions, enhancing its functionality. "The initial reception of the Stillson wrench was overwhelmingly positive. Mechanics and plumbers quickly recognized the tool’s potential to revolutionize their work. ... This recognition paved the way for widespread adoption and further innovations in wrench design." Creativity happens every day. Daniel Stillson used his experience as his inspiration to act creatively in designing a tool that revolutionized plumbing. Look around you. See anything you can improve with your creativity?

One of the best ways to do this is by offering a placement to students studying joinery, plumbing, and bricklaying—at no cost to your business. It may take some initial time, but the benefits can be tremendous. You could gain a future employee, an extra pair of hands, and the satisfaction of guiding someone on their construction journey. Let’s come together to support and shape the future of our industry, one placement at a time. #Trades #Construction #FutureWorkforce #SkillsDevelopment #Tlevel
