🌟 Exciting News from the EIC for 2025! 🌟 The #EuropeanInnovationCouncil has announced its 2025 funding priorities, with €1.4 billion dedicated to driving breakthroughs in essential areas. 🔋Key topics also cover 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 & 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 with a focus on: ♻️ Waste-to-Value Devices for circular production of #renewablefuels, chemicals, and materials 🚗 Breakthrough Innovations for Future #Mobility ⚙️ #AdvancedMaterials Development & Scaling 💡The introduction of the €300M 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞-𝐮𝐩 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝  for companies operating in EU-strategic deep-tech sectors is a notable new feature. Nice to see the work programme being published with minimal fuss this year - but once again there are changes afoot! Bring on the STEP! Having successfully submitted projects to the first call every time there has been a new instrument under the EIC - from the SME instrument in 2014, to the EIC pilot in 2018 and Horizon Europe. So looking forward to getting my teeth into this new instrument. Introducing STEP makes a lot of sense - as the EIC Accelerator has been stretched to higher TRLs and scaleups, a gap has opened up for projects at TRL5/6. Asking the Accelerator to return its focus to its critical objective of supporting R&D startups to bridge the gap between research and market will provide clarity to applicants, evaluators and ensure this essential function is not left underserved. Since 2018 there have been many changes in the EIC Accelerator. It is great to now see a work programme that can really deliver support to breakthrough innovation at all stages of the pathway to impact. Credit where credit is due, so kudos to the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), Ivan Stefanic and all involved.

Today, during the Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU) European Conference in #Brussels, significant findings from the evaluation of the #H2020 R&I EU programme, previously released in January, were emphasized by Massimiliano Esposito, Head of Unit at Directorate-General Research and Innovation - European Commission. I would like to highlight two of them:   "Each euro in costs linked to the H2020 programme will ultimately bring five euros in benefits to EU citizens by 2040"   "20% additional growth in employment and a 30% increase in turnover and total assets for participating firms compared to the ones that were unsuccessful despite high quality applications"   Having spent the past 8 years at Zabala Innovation Europe, I've been lucky to directly witness how this latter outcome becomes a reality for our most engaged clients and partners.   Since the initiation of the 1st #FrameworkProgramme, Zabala Innovation has actively participated and supported organisations in their participation in EU-funded R&I programmes, fostering their innovation strategies and sustaining their competitiveness in such a challenging and dynamic environment.   With a success rate of 40%, we are the best partner to support your participation into R&I EU funded programmes. Discover how different cities in Europe have captured E.U. Net Contribution from the Horizon Europe program so far. Horizon Europe emerges as the European Union's pioneering research and innovation initiative, with a budget of €95.5 billion from 2021 to 2027. This program is designed to support various impact research projects. It strategically aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals to foster the EU's competitiveness and economic growth. Highlighting its significant contributions to various European cities up to this moment, Paris stands out with a net contribution of €1.43bn, Munich follows with € 973 mn, and Barcelona with € 948 mn. The European Union's investments have led to the development of significant innovation projects, such as The Calypso project, which the French heart device company CorWave led. The Calypso project has resulted in profound innovations that offer patients with heart failure a new opportunity to lead fully active lives. The European Innovation Council aims to support innovations with potential breakthroughs and disruptive nature. This initiative has introduced three main challenges: Pathfinder, Transition, and the EIC Accelerator. These are tailored to meet the financial requisites of innovative projects at different stages of development. Eligibility extends to entities from the E.U. and associated countries.  Lastly, the European Commission and the European Innovation Council decided that the last three years of the program (2025-2027) will focus on projects related to green transition, digital transition, and a more resilient, competitive, inclusive, and democratic Europe. This is an excellent opportunity for ecosystem builders to finance their innovations, and Deep Ecosystems is always finding ways to help our partners to collect these opportunities.
