Meet the team Saturday presents, Sally, RN, Nursing Supervisor. Sally is celebrating her 4 year anniversary with CPC in October. She formerly worked in the areas of Oncology, Critical Care and Emergency Care. She enjoys working at CPC to help people overcome their struggles when they are at their most vulnerable. She comments, "Knowing you have made a difference to enhance someone’s everyday being brings me gratification and fulfillment in my devotion to nursing. I love working with the staff at CPC. They all have individual experiences that strengthen what they have to offer to our patients. They are cheerful, enthusiastic, and support each other as well as their patients. As a nursing supervisor I enjoy being in a position to support the staff and operations of CPC." Congratulations Sally!

As I continue through my DNP program I am learning about many different nursing, psychological, and developmental nursing theories. Lately, I have really enjoyed learning about Laschinger's Expanded Nurse-Patient Empowerment Model. As nursing educators and nursing leaders, we must not only empower those we lead but also encourage and give strength to our patients. This model focuses on empowering our patients through 5 basic concepts: Education and Information, Encouragement, Support, Health Literacy, and shared decision-making. Take an inventory of your consistency with the concepts below... How often do you consistently provide education and information for our patients who often feel like they don't know what is going on? What about those we lead, do they know our vision and what we expect? How often do we encourage our teams and our patients? Are we reminding those we lead, as well as our patients, that they are doing a great job and pointing out their strengths? How do we support those we lead and our patients? Simply listening can do wonders Are we making sure those we lead and our patients truly understand the instructions they are given? Do they understand challenging health concepts or do they just nod their head in agreement, afraid of saying that simply do not get it? And finally, are we the type of leader who lets our team and our patients not just be a problem, but actually have a voice and work together for solutions? What areas are you great at? Where do you need improvement? All of these things can change us and impact our leadership if we are willing to grow and learn. Let's create empowerment in those we lead and with our patients today! https://lnkd.in/ey77HN89 Spence Laschinger, H. K., Gilbert, S., Smith, L. M., & Leslie, K. (2010). "At the start of your career or even when you decide to switch specialties, choosing your nursing specialty is crucial. An excellent article that proposes a blueprint for action to completely measure and recognize the care provided by acute and critical care nurses to be incorporated into policy that shapes and supports practice. Call to action: Blueprint for change in acute and critical care nursing https://lnkd.in/gVbT4a_w Our goal in articulating this Blueprint is to call attention to the outcomes of stellar bedside nursing practice, making it visible to patients and families, bedside nurses, healthcare systems, and policy decision-makers. Highlights •We call for a major change in how nursing is measured in acute and critical care hospitals. •We articulate nine domains of practice and core elements of hospital environments that support nurses’ capacity to provide optimal care. •We propose precision-based outcomes that call attention to the presence, not the absence, of nursing care. •Novel partnerships are needed to develop and incorporate new measures into hospital accreditation and reimbursement structures. •Highlighting outcomes of stellar bedside practice, making them visible to all, will benefit patients and families.
