“The MEP Gusset Plates saved me both time and money with its simple installation process. The testing provided the assurance I needed to get the plate approved by the architect and inspectors. It's very easy to use and helped me avoid a costly repair to the studs. I’ll be using MEP Gusset Plates again and highly recommend it.” – Contractor, DPR Construction. Problem-Solving/Re-Active Coordination in Action: How We Helped Our Client Overcome Coordination Challenges Recently, a general contractor client faced a significant roadblock during the coordination phase with their subcontractors. The project had been stalled for months because the plumbing systems required the majority of the ceilings to be lowered—compromising the architects’ vision and the end-user experience. That’s when Prefix DFMA stepped in. We were engaged to monitor a couple of meetings and identify potential solutions. After thorough analysis, we took the process internally and completely redesigned the underground piping system. The result? ✅ No more ceiling compromises: We preserved the original design intent, keeping the ceilings at the desired height. ✅ 45% reduction in piping: Our redesign not only solved the ceiling issue but also optimized the system, eliminating nearly half of the piping required. ✅ Saved 30+ beam penetrations: By streamlining the design, we eliminated the need for field cuts on over 30 beams, reducing labor, cost and complexity. It’s always satisfying to help our clients resolve tough challenges with innovative solutions, saving time and resources while staying true to the project’s vision. #Prefix #CoordinationSuccess #Precoordination #ArchitecturalIntegrity #ProblemSolvers #PrefixDFMA #GeneralContracting #Innovation #DeriskingDesign

Why do construction project’s experience delays ? Here are the top 10 reasons - 1. Unforeseen site conditions - hard rock during excavation , underground utilities or hazardous material 2. Weather - storm , flood or extreme heat 3. Material shortage - strike of suppliers, transport issues 4. Permits and approvals - Liasoning and govt approvals 5. Labour shortages - lack of skilled manpower , labour strike , demobilisation 6. Lack of design coordination - Architectural , structural , MEP , Facade, landscape drawings - not in sync with each other 7. Poor selection of contractor - contractor not performing to desired level 8. Allocation of proper budget - budgeting and costing considering current market and specification of project 9. Change in specifications - changes in specs at the time of execution 10. Payments to contractors and suppliers - delay in payments to contractors and suppliers.

What could have caused such a mistake? Highlighted below are some of the main reasons for improper installation: 1).Misinterpretation of plan If a team member misinterprets design documents or specifications,it could lead to incorrect installation. 2).Poor Communication Poor communication between architects, engineers and contractors can lead to misalignment of design specifications and actual installation practices. 3). Insufficient Collaboration If different teams especially structural engineers and service engineers do not work closely together,it can result in designs that do not account for the standard requirements of all systems. 4).Lack of Review Failing to conduct thorough review of shop drawings and installation plans can lead to errors that are not caught before construction begins. 5). Inadequate Planning If the drainage layout was not thoroughly planned during the design phase,it could result in conflict with structural elements leading to improper installation. 6). Inconsistent Design Documentation Variation in design documents or unclear specifications can result in misinterpretation during installation.

Construction engineers, builders etc should stop this practice of embedding plumbing pipes inside a beam or even a column. You are highly compromising the designed strength of that particular column. Let me explain. If such particular column is designed on the structural drawing to carry a 50kN load and by your own action on site, you introduced a 4 inches plumbing pipe or even say 2 inches pipe into that column space that should be filled up with concrete. You have heavily reduced the quantity of concrete that should be used to filled the column which is required to give the column the required strength to withstand the designed load it should carry. Conclusively, by that singular act, you have compromise the structural integrity of the building in that axis. DO NOT BURY PIPES IN BEAMS AND COLUMNS. #constructioninsightswithjonyx #buildingconstruction #buildwithjonyx #projectmanagement
